'''Roleplay from Sorsha McDowell'''

Leaving the Inn behind, Sorsha returned to the Palace and took up the Queen’s offer of staying the night.

It wasn’t long after she arrived a servant approached her with a silver tray. “A letter has arrived for you Dame Sorsha,” he spoke eloquently and bowed. She should have been in a sour mood, especially after what had just occurred but she put it into the void as she did everything else, as Kaylan had taught her. She wondered how Mathias and Rathan would deal with one another now.

Putting it to the back of her mind, she took the letter and returned to her room. The same room in which she had stayed when last here. The large curtains billowed with the breeze and she sat at the desk near the window. She examined the seal and was mildly surprised when she recognized who it was from.

She broke it open and began to read it.

<i>“Dear Sister,

I hope everything is well. It has been a long time since we’ve talked… unfortunately I write to you, for I know not who else to write to. I feel so alone and so lost… and I don’t know how else to tell you this, other than Alec has disappeared.” </i>

At that her brow rose.

<i>“Terrible things have been happening in Beluaterra, I was only going to see him a short while ago when he left with a colony effort and I haven’t seen or heard from him again. I hear whispers everywhere I go, of madness, of death. I fear he has been consumed by the Netherworld…I fear our brother is dead. Our dear cousin Fiona was with him as well and so recently after being found again, only to be lost once more. Please I need some guidance; I do not know where to go from here. I am so afraid. I want to search for him, but I fear if I go, I as well will be consumed. I need your help.

I miss and love you,

Deianarah McDowell” </i>

Sorsha finished reading the letter and set it on the desk. Well that was interesting… Her brother had disappeared, and was possibly dead. She waited several minutes for the shock to dissolve and the emotion to hit but neither touched her.

She unbraided and brushed her long hair out until it turned into soft waves of brown. Maybe she should inform the Duchess, Fiona was her sister after all, if not by blood at least by name.

She’d tell her if she came across her.

The day so far had been quite uneventful and Sorsha had silently returned to her room. Today she wore the brown leathers, and even though the seasons were slowly changing she could still feel the remnant of heat touch her.

She removed her armored gloves, undid the braid in her hair, and untied the belts around her torso and waist loosening the leathers, breathing easier. She lazily lounged on the large bed, her hair fanning around her and watched the sky from the large open window near her.  The soft breeze coming through allowed the light curtains to billow and she sighed. Large white clouds moved slowly, occasionally hiding the setting sun.

Lying on her back, she raised her hand, casting a small shadow across her face. The pain of it she could no longer feel, but it looked horrendous, broken. Lowering her hand, she bit her lip and closed her eyes.

When she did Alec, her brother, was there, watching her. She sat up on her elbows and he smiled. “You know this isn’t you,” he told her and she looked away with, “you’re not here, you’re dead.”

“Oh right, and this is what you do? That’s all you give me?” he cocked his head. “Not even a goodbye, I should think I deserve that at least, maybe even a tear.” He stood before her now and she could feel his glower, his eyes boring into her and he passed his hand through his dirty blond hair, a habit she had tried to break him out of.

“Sorsh…” he had always preferred shortening names, it was out of love he told her. “You know you’re not the only person to ever get hurt, right?” He kneeled before her and took her hands in his. “I know it hurts inside…It hurts so much you can’t breathe but you have people around you who love and care for you and what was done to you… you’re doing to them. If you keep doing this, in the end you’ll be exactly what you feared you’d become… alone.”

“I am alone,” she said softly and he shook his head. “No you’re not,” Alec disappeared and Mathias was in front of her, holding her hands instead. “You’re never alone.”

She lay back down and Mathias sat beside her. Alec’s words put fear in her heart and she tightened her hands. “Mathias,” she whispered with need, returning to sweetness.

“Mathias… I don’t know what I’m doing anymore,” she admitted and he ran his hand over her hair to cup her face. “Stay with me,” she asked him and he lay down with her, holding her. “Don’t leave me like he did…please,” she begged him and he held her tighter.

Sorsha neared the small river and kneeled in the soft grass beside it. Looking up over the horizon she could see the setting sun as it covered everything in a warm orange glow, transforming the leaves hanging overhead into myriad colors. Night was coming and usually shrouded everything with darkness. She could hardly appreciate what surrounded her and wished it would be now, because night made everything disappear and she was better again.

Reaching beside her she picked up a small handcrafted boat. Taking a candle she lit it with a small fire she had brought with her. The flame hissed and danced and she allowed some hot wax to drip into the boat and set the candle into it.

Setting it into the water, she whispered, “Alec may the light find you once more and guide your way…” she took a shaky breath and closed her eyes. “I miss you…” she kissed the tip of her fingers and blew it into the air and watched as the tiny craft was carried away. She had no idea where the river led to, but it was away from the confines of her dark heart and towards light and freedom… She waited for the tears to come, wanting them this time to prove her brother wrong, but they never came.

Taking another boat she repeated everything and set the boat into the water. “Kaylan, I understand you now…” she breathed. “You were and will forever be the best of us. I will never forgive you for taking your life… but wherever you are now, may you find the love you were looking for. May it shelter you in its warm embrace and heal your wounded heart. Remember… we loved you.” Again, she waited but her eyes were still dry, but inside she was screaming for something to show she really cared but all she felt was emptiness at her own words.

Next she took the last boat and her shoulders tightened. She set it into the river and closed her eyes, “Conrac…” she whispered…and this time she had difficulty breathing. As the craft trailed away following the current, she closed her eyes. “You never gave me the chance…you owed me that at least… but you will never hear it now… Goodbye.”

Watching the small boats float away, she lay down beside the creek and closed her eyes.

'''Roleplay from Kisharianda Onyxien'''

Master Ugyel ran his fingers through the pages and she watched waiting. "This child is in the palace you say" his glasses on the very edge of his nose almost slipping. Kisharianda nodded and looked out the balcony at the full moon.

"I do not know how she will even react to all this, I mean she took up my offer to stay directly here while the others took care of Qubel lighthouse. I have been pacing for days in my mind how to approach her" she looked at Ugyel still following his finger closely as he read. "Are you listening to me" she said impatiently throwing her hands up in the air

"uh..yes, yes child I'm listening" he kept on reading. "There we go if indeed Sorsha is the one to show you the way, once she reads from this passage you will see right through her and her you, understand" He handed her the book

"Are you serious!?" she grabbed the book "I'm supposed to make her read a book and poof everything reveals itself" she put the book down and folded her arms "I'm sorry Master but I just don't believe it's that easy, years people have tried to find the Scholar and one small passage from a book and all is unfolded" she shook her head "Are you sure you even know what you are doing?" she turned and looked at him.

His eyes locked into hers without a sound, his brows came down together and his nostrils flared. She knew she had upset him but nothing he was telling her was clear everything seemed so far fetched.

"You quickly forget your teachings" He looked around the library and spoke three words in ancient tongue and a small breeze came in the room blowing out the candles one by one until there was complete darkness.

"If you rely on what your eyes can see in the light how are you going to make it through the darkness" he hissed. She had learned every form of magic Ugyel had to teach of course this was nothing she hadn't seen before so her first reaction was to counter react to the darkness by conjuring up the light herself. <i>"Moith gaouth moirianic" </i>she said out loud but nothing happened "What is this" she turned in Ugyel's direction letting her eyes slowly adjust to his shadow before her.

"In some cases magic will be present but magic will not help you find your way" she could tell he was smiling as he spoke "You'll have to rely on an inner voice to guide you through, and if your strength is magic and Sorsha is the woman you need then you will have to put your trust in her to guide you were you cannot and she will have to do the same, you need one another" the floor started to creek under Ugyel's foot and he blew lightly on one of the candles on the desk lighting it's flame and suddenly she watched every candle he had put out start to flicker again.

"Very good" she clapped sarcastically "But I'm sure it's much more then lighting a couple candles along the way, if it were that easy I'm sure the scholar has been found and we are doing this for nothing" she sat down and exhaled disappointed.

"None sense child, the scholar could not have been found because you are here now and you are the one who finds it" he grinned "Maybe you should take this book to Sorsha and see what happens from it all" he nodded at the book.

Kisharianda got up and grabbed the book in her hands and started to make her way to the door. "Oh and Kish" he paused "Don't be surprised at the things you may see once she reads the passage, sometimes things aren't always what they seem" he grinned and she closed the door.

She stood outside of Sorsha's bedroom pacing back and forth. What am I supposed to just knock on the door and ask her to read the passage "Excuse me Dame Sorsha I'm wondering if you could do me a favor and read this passage for me." she sighed and rubbed her forehead. "Dame Sorsha would you care to join me for some light reading" she growled at herself "Dame Sorsha I have this book that is said to be a .. no no no" she continue to whisper to herself practicing her approach when the door before her opened slowly. She caught her breath and stood face to face with Sorsha.

"Dame Sorsha I'm sorry did I wake you?" she discreetly put the book behind her and gave a nervous smile. She could face a crowd of people in confidence while preaching and give speeches if needed to, she could sit in the presence of angry men and women in her courtroom. But at this very moment she felt like a child who had gotten caught with her hand in the cookie jar. She was guilty of acting suspiciously and worst of all it was written all over her face.

Sorsha had been up, pacing her room when she heard the faintest sound. At first she stopped walking, cocking her head trying to discern what it was until she realized it was coming from the hallway. She walked over to the door and opened it. On the other side she came face to face with Kisharianda who quickly hid something behind her back and gave so much effort hiding the fact it was laughably obvious.

Only Sorsha didn’t laugh, or smile, instead she stood impassively. “No, you did not wake me,” she informed and crossed her arms. “I could not sleep.”

Kisharianda nodded her head quickly and Sorsha’s brows furrowed. The Duchess looked over into the room and Sorsha looked over her shoulder, wondering what could possibly be hiding in her room. “Was there anything you needed…from me?” she asked, opening the door further.

She could feel her heart pounding in her chest from seeing Sorsha face to face, she was not expecting the lady to open the door. Noticing Sorsha look behind her pushing the door further Kisharianda walked in,taking it as an invite.

"Good I would hate to have woken you" she turned to look at Sorsha who was examining her with a raised brow. Now what... "I hope you have everything you need here to make your stay comfortable" she looked around the room and back at Sorsha. And Sorsha frowned at her comment and nodded. The moment was awkward and Kisharianda held the book up in front of her.

"Have you heard of books containing magic in their pages?" she asked nervously

Sorsha closed the door behind her and walked back to face Kisharianda. Her palms were getting sweaty and she didn't know how to ask her to read the passage in the book without sounding like she had lost her mind.

"I have been working on translating some of the passages in this book, but I'm not sure if the words truly mean what it is actually saying" she opened the book to the passage "My mother always told me two heads were better then one" she smiled "I think it's a riddle of some kind, but some words used in this sentence I can't understand" she flipped the book and offered it to Sorsha.

"Can you understand this?" Sorsha took the book from her hands keeping her eyes locked on Kish's. A cold chill ran down her back from the silence and Sorsha's eyes slowly lowered to the book unimpressed. From the look Sorsha gave she wanted to take the book and excuse herself for disturbing her at such a late hour, but her feet were glued in place. She needed to hear her read the passage but Sorsha read silently, now she would have to ask her to read out loud.

"Can you please read it so that I can hear it" her hands trembled as she asked. Why was she getting all worked up over this, after all it was only Dame Sorsha they were friends after all, why was this so hard.

Sorsha looked up at Kish and cocked her head looking back down at the book.

Looking down at the book again Sorsha paused. She had read it and a part of her was silently amazed. She swallowed and read the passage this time out loud. “You need to understand hate before you know love. You need to experience death before you live again. You need to sleep until you are awoken. You must know lies before you find me. You need to live in the darkness in order to see the light for it is the dawn that reveals you.

She repeated the last line in a whisper, <i>“feumadh tu bhi fuireach anns an dorchadas mas fhaic hu an solas…”</i> but she couldn’t finish it… She had uttered the words to Bowie so long ago, in another lifetime, they had simply come out of nowhere but now she didn’t know what to make of it.

Kisharianda looked especially hopeful as she faltered, but Sorsha stood rigidly once more and looked away. How could she explain this to her and have her understand? Instead she closed the book and slid it across the desk. “I'm not sure its made to be understood,” she told her instead. “They are but mysterious riddles,” she said softly.

"Riddles, right" she bit her lower lip. She studied Sorsha's body trying to feel some kind of emotion from her, but there was nothing but the feeling of curiosity. Which was a normal emotion to have right now especially when a woman comes to you in the middle of the night asking you to read a book.

Urgh Nothing! there's nothing, not meant to be understood Kisharianda glanced around the room to see anything out of the ordinary.. a light.. a breeze something but nothing changed. Sorsha slid the book on the table.

Kisharianda looked at the book with a bit of disappointment "It's just one of those things that bothers you, you know like forgetting someone’s name but yet it's at the tip of your tongue" she said hopeful maybe to trigger something in Sorsha "I have read this passage many times and every time I read it I feel like it's more then just a passage" she paused "Kinda like a message" she picked up the book "Who knows since I have been pregnant I have experienced many different moods I guess you can say, maybe my emotions are getting the best of me" she laughed

"I'm so sorry to have disturbed you with this Lady Sorsha" she patted Sorsha's arm apologetically "I'll see myself out I hope you have a good night sleep" she walked out the door and headed to her room.

Sorsha had no reaction to the passage and she felt nothing from her reading from the book either. Maybe she had done something wrong, maybe she should have read the passage to reveal something in her with the way everything was turning out it could have been something that simple. She would sleep on it for the night and talk to Ugyel in the morning. She couldn't give up that easily and she would make sure to catch up with Sorsha tomorrow to try and talk to her again and explain things better. Maybe the only approach with Sorsha would be to be direct.

After Kisharianda left, Sorsha watched the door quietly with a frown. She paced the room once more going back to her thoughts, only now she added the passage she had just read. Wondering its meaning, she repeated the lines over and over.

It was a riddle one she felt connected to in more ways than one. It seemed almost to bring her directly into the book. It spoke of things she understood yet in some ways couldn’t explain. It was as if the book was talking of her… but that was impossible. Whoever wrote it, only got half of it correct, she was incomplete. She flirted hate, she had found death, the eternal sleep that allowed her detachment… as for the last, she knew lies… but what of the rest? Had she lost her light? How would she ever find the dawn without that part of her? “I am darkness…” she muttered absently.

“Now you’re getting it,” Kaylan whispered with a grin and Sorsha looked up with a frown. She looked to the bed and then to the ground before her and blinked. Had she fallen asleep? “I’m not sleeping,” she said numbly and Kaylan nodded. “Where would the fun be in that?” Sorsha swallowed and looked towards the exit.

“It is about you, you did get that part right,” she told her and Sorsha backed up with genuine fear. In the dreams when she was revisited by her dead cousin, the feelings were surreal, almost as if her subconscious knew she was dreaming but this… this wasn’t the same. Everything felt too real.

Sorsha held on to the table beside her to keep from slipping to the ground and held her head and closed her eyes. She was losing her mind, there was no doubt about it now, she had danced with insanity seduced by its caress for a while now and she was becoming worse.

“Don’t hurt me,” she pleaded with Kaylan and this time her cousin laughed. “Oh not tonight, and besides it’s not that bad, I could do… much worse” she purred. “Just remember when we’re done and the real pain comes, you’ll thank me because this time you’ll be able to handle anything.”

When Sorsha opened her eyes again she was alone. She looked around to make sure, but there was no one there.

She didn’t know what to do. Was it time she told someone of her ailment? Would they understand the insanity that coursed through her?

Mathias had offered to help her… he had his own dealings with Alexander… would he help her or simply think her too far gone? Would Kisharianda help her…? She sighed and lay into the bed. Hoping the rest of her night would remain uneventful. Maybe she needed sleep, but she feared the nightmares… If she had seen Kaylan wide awake, what kind of welcoming would she receive in sleep this time.
