Sorsha left her men in Port Raviel with clear orders to stand guard around the Palace and to make sure no one so much as sneezed without them knowing about it, and departed for Port Nebel.

Upon her arrival, she took the time to walk around the city stopping several times to examine the wares the merchants were selling. She crossed a small kiosk of swords, and could see behind it a blacksmith hard at work over a forge, his constant hammering filling the air, adding to the various yelling of wares from the other merchants.

Walking into the small area, she looked around to the beautiful swords around her. She touched each slowly, with appreciative perusal. She walked past them to a small table, on it were two curved daggers, deadly looking. Picking one up, she tested its weight and then picked up the second. The handles were comfortable, the double edged blade curved, one side sharp, the other serrated for gruesome damage. She tested them with an expert movement, and smiled as the air whistled.

The hammering on the anvil stopped and the Blacksmith looked over his shoulder. She could see him looking her up and down, most likely taking in her skin tight black leathers with awe and blinked at what she was holding. “They’re not for sale,” he said gruffly and she lowered the blades. “Them were made for someone else,” he explained.

She regarded him slowly and a smile crept on her lips. “Really,” she grinned and tucked each into her belt. “I will offer double what they’re giving you.”

At that his eyes grew larger as he mentally calculated the price. She actually didn’t care how much she needed to give out, she wanted them. “Well uhm.. it’s only…”

She could feel him trying to come up with a reasonable excuse but she cut him off, “and while you’re at it. I’d like to commission something else,” this time she gave him her sweetest smile. “For your Duke,” she added with a raised brow and he nodded his head with, “of course my Lady.”

“Good,” she said flatly, all semblance of civility gone. She gave him the instructions on what she wanted with a promise to return for it within two days time. The daggers she took with her.

Done, she rode Gaoth at a gallop to the Ducal Palace overlooking the city and brought him to the stables. Seeing her the stable boy bowed with a smile. “Welcome Lady Sorsha.”

Ignoring him, she left and walked past the guard at the door, who had been told to allow her to enter whenever she arrived. She walked to Mathias’ study and found it empty. She walked around the desk and sat comfortably in his chair, propped her feet up on the desk and waited.

It wasn’t long after Mathias entered the room with Duad following behind like a puppy following his master. He did not see her as he seemed preoccupied with his servant, giving him orders. Sorsha watched as Duad bowed and left and waited for silence to settle.

“Good day, Duke,” she greeted and he turned to finally see her.

“Is this a bad time?” her blue violet eyes looked him over slowly.

Mathias turned to see Sorsha sitting in his desk and replied, "My Lady, I did not know you were here, but no it is never not a good time for a visit from you. Might I ask though why you decided to grace me with your presence this fine day?"

“Hmmm,” she hummed lightly, removing her feet from the desk, she walked around it to stand a short distance from him. “Do I need one?” Sorsha said as she lightly touched his ever present armor.

"Of course not my lady, you need no reason to visit me. I am just curious." he said as he sat in his now vacant chair.

Now that Mathias was sitting in his chair, she walked back around to stand beside him. Putting both hands on the desk, she raised herself to sit on the edge, and crossed her legs. “Do you have anything planned this evening?”

Mathias then reached into a small cabinet behind his desk and pulled out two small glasses and a bottle of whiskey. Pouring the two a glass he responded, "No my lady, did you perchance have something in mind?"

She took up one of the glasses, and watched as he poured the liquid, remembering the last time she had drank whiskey with him. “No…” she said softly and drank its contents in one gulp. The burning sensation trailed down her throat and she lowered her glass to the table once more. “I wanted company… Have you eaten yet?”

"No my lady, I have yet to eat." he said to Sorsha only to think to himself. "Hmm, she seems to be beating around the bush on something. I wish she would just get on with it and tell me, but I shall not force it out."

"Did you wish to get some food my lady? I can have my chef prepare us a fantastic feast for us to enjoy. that is of course if you wish it."

“Yes,” she agreed, “I’m hungry but not a feast, it's just the two of us,” she then moved away from the desk. Mathias called out his servant and ordered the meal be prepared and then he watched her, waiting for her to say something else. She had obviously blundered with the way she was acting… too nicely. But she would wait, she wanted something first.

She made sure the servants had left the room and she lowered her eyes to the ground, looking at her boots. “Tell me Mathias… How did you ever deal with Alexander?” she asked quietly, referring to his alter ego, the flaw in his shattered psyche that allowed the darkness within him to breathe life.

"Wow" thought Mathias to Sorsha's statement. "Now that's a name I have not heard in a long time. though I still hear him in my head from time to time. I had thought most people forgot about that dark spot in my past. Well to tell you the truth he is still here" Mathias said pointing to his head, "but I have learned through sheer willpower to control him; as can be seen from me no longer going on rampages or sneaking into the palace. Might I ask..." Mid sentence one of his servants came into the room and announced that food would be served shortly and that they should move onto the dinning hall.

The two then began to walk down through the palace to the dinning hall and Mathias continued, "My Lady, as I was saying might I ask why you are suddenly so curious as to my alter ego?"

She didn’t answer his question and turned her attention to the many tapestries on the walls, instead she asked another, “how do you recognize if your thoughts are your own… or his?” This time her eyes looked directly into his as a flash of desperation appeared through her cold and hard exterior. “How are you sure it is really you, and not Alexander who is present, biding his time until an opportunity presents itself?”

"There is no real way to know, but I have come to understand all these thoughts as my own, and Alexander as just part of me I ignored for so long that it eventually exploded to the surface. Just as you are feeling....never mind ignore that I said that." The two then having reached the hall took their seat next to each other and awaited the first trays to arrive.

"Sorsha, I think I understand why you are asking me these questions, but I would like you to tell me... tell me the truth. Please."

Sorsha took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. Would he understand if she told him the truth? – The real truth, not some lame cover up for her recent change of wardrobe.

She looked into his blue eyes, “Mathias,” she whispered and bit her lip with a shake of her head. “I think… There is…” she stammered, and he looked at her, waiting patiently and she closed her eyes. She couldn’t look, because when she told him the truth, the loving look he had for her would change.

“There is something dark within me… something so incredibly powerful, I feel it, it consumes everything. I know I am in control, yet sometimes I feel like it controls me.” She looked away, still unable to open her eyes. “I think I’m scared…only, I don’t remember what that feels like, I don’t remember what anything feels like,” she breathed. “Remember that nightmare you woke me from?” This time she looked at him, “I don’t think I ever truly woke from it.”

"Sorsha, how could one forget how to feel? What happened to you that killed everything about you? Made you who and what you are today? Never mind I know what did that to you and that is my fault for not fighting harder to keep you and instead throwing you to the wayside."

Then taking a deep breath and rubbing his hand on his chin Mathias continued, "I won’t make that mistake ever again. I won’t abandon you again like others have and like I myself did. I shall never forgive myself for the pain and suffering I have caused you, but I ask that you forgive me."

Mathias then stood up and walked solemnly over to Sorsha then taking a knee he grabbed her hand and begged, "My Lady please forgive me for my past wrongs. I have caused you so much pain...and...I....I will do whatever is in my power to help you through these trying times of yours. Whatever I can do please ask me of it and I shall do everything in my power to make it happen." Mathias said as he clearly began to cry at the pain he had caused Sorsha.

Sorsha felt his hands and saw the pain across his face and her hands tightened around his. “You are forgiven Mathias…” she reached down to touch the tear on his cheek, the minuscule drop of water on her fingertip was warm, compared to her, everything about her was just cold. This should have triggered something within her, but there was just the void of emptiness. Not even the death of her brother, Alec, had made her cry.

This time she really wanted to scream from her lack of emotion to him. Her vision blurred and she blinked. “I’m sorry…” she apologized for her lack of reaction to his words. “I want to…” she admitted, “I just can’t.”

Still refusing to look up at Sorsha, Mathias responded "My Lady, you need not be sorry for what you have no control over. It is my fault that this has happened to you and I shall do what I must to fix it." Then looking up and into Sorsha's eyes he saw something, not much but a small tear drifting from her left eye.

Mathias then removed his gauntlet from his hand and took it to her cheek. "This shall be the first of many" he said as he took the tear and put it into a vial. "Take this my lady, let it be proof that you can feel, and that one day you shall return to who everyone loved so deeply.

Then suddenly the kitchen doors flung open and the waitress came and brought the two their first dish, "Here you go My lord and lady, Fried crab claws caught fresh this very morning and once you are done a prime cut of steak from your private livestock has been prepared and cooked in a butter sauce on the chefs grill until the inside has become a beautiful pink." The waitress then turned to Sorsha, "My Lady, how would you like yours prepared so that I may inform the cook?"

Sorsha flinched as the servant walked in, ruining the perfect moment and she looked over her shoulder to the owner of the annoying voice. “The same,” she said impassively, the woman bobbed her head and walked away leaving them alone once more.

Stealing a glance from Mathias who was still on his knees before her, she hesitantly took the small vial and looked at it quietly.

“I have thought myself too far gone... Everything I ever was or had, has slowly been taken from me.”

Then shaking her head lightly, she gave him back the vial. “It was for you… keep it, wear it close to your heart.” She tried to smile and added so quietly, she didn’t think Mathias would hear her, “it may be my last.”

Mathias then took the vial and put it in a parcel under his armor. "It shall always remain here,” said Mathias then patting his breastplate. Then standing back up he took his seat and began to eat his food.

Sorsha wasn’t very hungry, but she still joined Mathias. They ate in silence for a time, the awkwardness settling for her. What did one say after that? It was a few moments before the maidservant replaced their first platter with the next, filled with succulent meat. Following that was desserts. Mathias smiled as the cover was removed from her plate, waiting for her reaction. Upon noticing the soft sponge cake laced with heavy cream and strawberries, she paused. She smiled in his direction, not really feeling it, but making the utmost effort to show him she appreciated the gesture. She ate it, trying to savor each bite.

When she was done, she pushed the plate aside. Mathias had been watching her every move for a while and she looked at him. “Thank you” she said quietly.
