Roleplay from Deianarah McDowell

Deianarah looked out the side window of the carriage watching the scenery as it passed her by and gave a small sigh. She had been traveling for two days now, and it seemed everything moved by so slowly. Normally she would have preferred traveling atop Loach but Thain had refused such a thing, especially with her pregnancy, insisting she take this carriage. It wasn’t all bad, but it was very slow moving.

Sighing again, she then turned to the servant facing her. A new one. One she did not know but that her family originated from Azros and had requested that Deianarah take the young woman in her care. She was pretty, if young but inexperienced. Perhaps she could mold this one better. Already the other woman refused to meet her gaze from intimidation but Dei wasn’t going to make the invitation to have her warm up to her, not so quickly after what had happened with Alexandra anyway. Deianarah had other servants, dozens of them, but she preferred to have one to care for her personal matters.

Deianarah’s mouth quirked into a fleeting smile as she quickly recalled the look in Alexandra’s eyes when confronted with what had taken place with Thain. Better was the look on her face when she was banished from court, and made to live the rest of her miserable existence working in filth. Of course, she had been given a choice, Deianarah would have preferred the beheading herself but that had only been to scare her. Well Dei had accomplished what she set out to do. The woman was frightened and was not someone she would think of again.

Already she missed Thain terribly, but he was away taking care of affairs as it was, it was probably better that she occupy herself with a different task to keep her mind busy. She wouldn’t return to Azros for another week and a half. Thain would have time to return before she did. Returning her gaze to the window, she wondered what Thain was doing now, and if he would feel her absence now that she was gone.

“They did what?” Deianarah asked again, not truly believing what she was hearing. “They’ve attacked Leod, and now they’re rallying and attacking Azros,” her man gave the news and Dei’s fists tightened.

“Priest Galen also re-joined Soliferum changing Arrmol’s allegiance in the midst of it all.” This time her light brown eyes narrowed and she leaned forward to look the man in the eyes. “He did what?” she hissed and he repeated it again and she gripped the soft cushions of her carriage until her knuckles were white. “That snake…” she said dangerously, thinking how all of this was her fault. She should have banned him when she had the chance. She had known something was going on, especially after his reaction to having other nobles in his region. Galen had waited patiently and struck when their efforts were concentrated elsewhere. Unfortunately she was not in Azros yet, but on her way back. “If he ever finds his way back into my cell, I swear by Odin he will regret the day he was born,” she warned into the air.

Keeping her voice as calm as she could, she finally asked her next question, “and what of the King, where is he?” she asked, her heart pounding in her chest.

Her scout looked at her and bowed regretfully. “He has been wounded Milady, he is being cared for.” He then looked down to the ground, knowing full well how this news affected her. This time her nails dug into the soft fabric, the pain in her hands almost unbearable. “There is another wounded as well,” he said. Dei was having difficulty listening, she was too busy trying to calm herself. Putting both hands to her stomach she cradled her unborn child. Already she was beginning to show, and her dresses had to be let out to allow more room. “…Sir Alec McDowell,” he said and she looked up. “This is a complete disaster,” she said and sighed.

“What will you do Milady,” another servant asked. What an image they were, all seen standing around the small carriage that had taken her away from it all. She looked to the road behind her, and then back to him with a low slow blink. “What to do indeed,” she answered, trying to keep her voice from trembling.

It was a few moments as she tried to regain her composure and finally she spoke. No longer was her voice soft, but held a dangerous air of command. “First, the King must be protected at all costs. I don’t care what it takes, do it!” Second, I want Galen to be hunted down like the dog he is. As for Azros...it seems Soliferum is there waiting for us. We will defend her walls with whatever we have.” She gave her word and he nodded and left.

Deianarah then looked down to her form, there may be a slight chance her armor would not fit her perfectly but she had to do something. The Capital needed to be protected at all costs.
