I admit, I didn't think this was really going to happen, mostly because it's such an overwhelmingly stupid idea. The Kalmar Islands is already in a state of war and general instability. Dividing the realm into two differnt sets of TLs with two different rulers and two separate armies is likely not going to help their efforts. As the Kalmar Islands will be populated almost exclusively by those who disapproved of the idea, it probably isn't too outrageous to think that there might eventually be strife between they and the Avamar Selective. Should the Kalmarians decide to leave the Avamarians to deal with Old Rancagua on their own, the loss of a quarter of the realm's resources won't serve the Avamarian's interests either.

This is a pretty bad deal for the Kalmarians. Along with the Kalmar Islands' only city and namesake, the new Avamar has taken three quarters of the population and gold income of the Islands and just under half of their food. This leaves the already poor and hungry realm a lot poorer and hungrier. The fact that the home realm will suffer internal problems from the inevitable peasant outrage at a secession while the Avamarians, I imagine, still presume upon the aid of Kalmar in fighting Old Rancagua makes this immense imposition all the greater.

Kavamar Secession

Well, the rumors were true. The heralds bore news this evening of the creation of a new theocracy centered in the city of Kalmar - The Avamarian Selective. The pontifex? That would be one One Rogala. The Avamarians have cut the Kalmar Islands in half and claimed the greater part of the realm as their own and turning the Kalmar Islands into the Chaos Temple Islands.

As the Kalmar Islands will be populated almost exclusively by those who disapproved of the idea, it probably isn't too outrageous to worry that there might eventually be strife between they and the Avamar Selective.

New Editor Hired

I have noticed the contributions of Lady Valdid Juramona, the leader of Division II, to our brilliant newspaper. I asked her if she would be interested in becoming an official editor, if she could regualrly provide some articles, and she agreed. As of now, Lady Valdid is officially an editor of the Itorunt Informer. Well done, and thanks for making up for Thray's lack of articles *hint hint*.

Rampaging Monsters at an End

September 12th

Today the monsters that were formerly roaming the regions Noritor, Enubec, and Dayr have been eliminated successfully. Over the last day or so, the monsters came out of hiding en masse in the regions of Aeng (500 CS), Itor Boss (1500 CS), and Dayr (500 CS).

The monsters in Dayr were quickly put down single-handedly by Baron Garrick. Rumors said his unit was weaker then that of the monsters, but achieved victory with few casualties in his 42-man unit. As expected, the well-trained units of Itorunt triumphed over the undisciplined monsters, who fled at first sight of Itoruntian steel.

The monsters in Noritor were weaker than the Itoruntian warriors, but held their ground defending the battlefield nonetheless, a fact attributed to either having the honor to face superior opponents or to stupidity. Itorunt nobles Ike, kris, Krunkh, and Terrence held perfect formation as they charged the monsters behind their fortifications. The outcome was 15 dying monsters and two wounded infantry, one from Krunkh's unit and the other from Ike's unit. However, the tables were turned in Enubec...

Count Michael was heading into the region, unaware of the monster threat heading his way, while he tried to work in the region to bring it up to par. As such, his men were tired from the journey and from working, and he and his unit were ambushed violently. 2000 CS of bandits and monsters stood against his lone unit, close to 500 CS, yet he still fought on, showing the courage of a true Itorunt warrior. Though he was wounded in the battle, he and his unit managed to kill enough of the monsters to weaken them to about 1000 CS, from the 2000 CS they were rumored to have. This goes to show the true might of Itorunt's troops and their powers on the field of combat.

His fight, though, was not in vain, for soon after his defeat at the hands of a much greater opponent, those in Itor Boss arrived to avenge his fallen men and protect his beloved citizens. They completely wiped out the vile creatures, which killed all of Count Michael's men in a dishonorable fashion, while only sustaining a total of 11 deaths and 3 casualties. They took revenge for the monsters' acts of violence in Itor Boss, a region belonging to a member of our federation, and for those committed in Enubec against our citizens.

Reasoning Behind the Northern War

Johnny, High Marshal of Old Rancagua, sent a message a day or two ago to the generals of the world detailing the reasoning behind OR's war with the Kalmar Islands. Some excerpts follow:

The war is for a multitude of reasons, but mostly a promise. When the avamarians moved into Kalmar and took it forcefully, many former Old Rancaguans were banned and removed. They attempted to take it back, but in the process failed and were banned. They returned home, and we made them a promise, to get it back. This was a joint venture with Perdan (The populating of KI), and we took it upon ourselves to aid them in getting it back.

After many diplomatic attempts, Lalakis agreed to allow Prometheus, former ruler of KI to return, and to restore the monarchy in KI with Prometheus as king. This was an agreement that OR and KI reached collectively, and the terms were accepted. However, the terms were not adhered to. Prometheus was elected in a Democracy, for two terms, and then removed. Not only did they not restore monarchy, but they did not keep the old king in office. This among a few other things pushed Dekion to make the decision to declare war.

Replying to his message, Sparky, High Marshal of Light of Fountain, stated that he had no doubt that OR would win, asking whether it would conquer the lands or give them back. Johnny responded by saying that OR had no wish to expand further, and would return the lands to the original inhabitants.

Clermont No Longer Rogue

Clermont, a former rogue region, was re-taken today in a hostile takeover. Unfortunately, three TL's were wounded in duels taking place while the TO was in process. Hopefully, Silvania, Rene, and Mischa will be back on their feet soon and ready to help bring Clermont's sister region Bisciye to our side. With High Marshal Wilfred leading exceptionally well, the TO's will probably be over within a week's time and beginning to raise to their former levels of production, loyalty, and morale.

Region Exchange

Talks are currently going on between Itorunt and Ibladesh concerning the exchange of regions such as Itor Boss and Moyale. Some of these regions once belonged to Ibladesh but were taken by Itorunt and others were promised to Itorunt earlier but were never actually given over. The result of these talks may seriously affect the future of the realms in the south. Nothing has been decided yet.

Dekion's Speech on Peace Talks

In an attempt to keep things in this paper fair, neutral, and balanced, the Itorunt Informer has received a copy of the speech issued to the rulers of the world, sent by King Dekion of Old Rancagua, concerning the current wars on the continent. Though this was some time ago, the full text of the letter follows.

Greetings, I wish to understand what is happening with the peace talks with Perdan. I understand there have been several offers and counter offers for peace, but thus far, nothing has been determined.

I also understand that even as peace talks are happening, Light of Fountain is comtemplating war against Perdan. The only reason I can think of for this is so Fontan can gain back the region of Fontan City, by TO one of Perdan's cities and giving it to LoF.

I also hear rumors of Coimbra, some people say LoF will be the new Coimbra, and yet others say that Coimbra will indeed be a seperate realm unto herself.

Unless Perdan is totally dismantled and all her regions given to LoF and this Coimbra, I cannot see how this will happen.

I applaud Itorunt for her peace with Perdan, and I am really at a loss as to how Ibladesh and Fontan are still at war with Perdan after over one month of "peace" talks. I wonder if everyone involved is just using the cover of "peace" talks to further their own agenda and gain strentgh to make a final assault on Perdan to take the entire realm.

I have questioned the people of my own realm about Coimbra and the vast majority were against this realm being formed again. They feel that it was destroyed once, and once dead, it should stay dead. Of course there are a few that are still interested in the status of such a realm being ressurected.

I have also heard rumors of the nation Old rancagua is at war with, Kalmar Islands, being split into two parts with half the TL's joining one realm, and the former Avamar TL's joining the other part. Lots of things being talked about and planned.

And finally we have the nation of Caligus that is being wiped out by Yssaria and Itorunt at the present moment. King Eleran, what are your plans for Caligus? Total annihilation of the realm? Or will you let them survive with a few regions?

I would like you all to consider what happens when a realm is totally destroyed. When this happens, there are a number of TL's that leave the island, but others that wish to stay. If Caligus and Perdan are destroyed, will the other realms on this island let the former TL's into their realms? Will Fontan let Caligus TL's join their ranks? Will Sirion let Perdan nobles join their realm? Will Ibladesh and Itorunt let TL's join them? For certainly it cannot be expected to have every TL from destroyed realms leave the island totally.

Take a look at the map everyone. There is a limited amount of land out there. Everyone wants a piece of the pie so to speak. Old Rancagua is no different as we have expanded down as far as Poitiers. We have profited by the destruction of Rancagua, we have helped in the destruction of Avamar and Oligarch, and even now we are at war with Kalmar.

However, I would like our war with Kalmar to stay just that, our war. I am not asking for help, I do not want other nations to get involved. I respect Lalakis, for he and I have had many good conversations, unfortunately it seems sometimes we must follow the wills of our peoples, rather then our own. But I promised that if we did go to war, it would be honorable. No infils attacking council members and we would enter through Stora only. Despite what many of you may have heard, I plan on keeping my word in that respect.

SO that brings me back to my original point. Gregor, do you indeed intend to have LoF join your war against Perdan simply to gain back Fontan City? I find it hard to believe that with Sirion helping you, as well as Ibladesh fighting against Perdan in the south, that you need another realm to take on Perdan.

I have tried my best to remain impartial to what is happening on the island. I have tried to remain neutral to what is happening in the south, but I find myself questioning the honor of certain nations towards others, even in time of war.

What is this island coming to?

Sir Dekion King of Old Rancagua

Dekion's feelings have been echoed in some ways by TL's throughout the continent, calling for the realms warring Perdan to figure out what truly motivates their war. This is the first time Dekion has openly spoken out against the war. We will keep you updated on the situation.

Slowness

We apologize for the delay in articles. With Alex's death, the paper has suffered a great loss, but we will continue to bring you quality articles. Thray and I will do our best to keep the public satisfied. We will be on the lookout for another editor (to any in Itorunt that are willing).
