There are several different styles of Islands to play in BattleMaster. Each Island also has develops its own character as the character that reside and pass through these varied lands shape the very nature and life of the individual islands.

Standard Play Islands

These islands are ones without additional themes. These islands are:

Themed Island

Beluaterra is an island where civilization has only a tenuous foothold. Monsters, the undead, and various low plagues of that nature threaten to push the human settlers into the sea. Massive invasions tend to happen about once a year, but so far the human realms have successfully defended themselves from the invading hoards. Next time, they may not be so lucky...

Because of the distance and the fact that civilization has not yet fully taken root, there are no families native to Beluaterra and any characters must emmigrate there from another island -- nobody can start a character on Beluaterra. Banks on other islands will not accept any gold from Beluaterra, and the trip by sea is quite perilous, and so troop leaders there cannot send money home.

Character Centric Island

The Far East Island is character or role-play centric. Here playing in character and general roleplay is enforced. What that means is realms, duchies, guild, and characters are all expected to make sense. This is a haven against out of character powerplaying.

Currently due to the high individual incomes on the Far East Island, the sending the gold to family feature is disabled. The Far East Island is also one of two testing island. That means many of the new features are tried here before they are added to the other islands.

Winner Take All Islands

These are what they imply. Winner Take All, Last Man Standing, and even my dog can beat up your dog. These are known as battle islands because all diplomacy is set at war. There is no trading, bureaucracy, food (or goods of any kind), or even a banker. Rulers set taxes. These are the only islands that reset. Once a victor is crowned, everyone is moved out and it all starts all over again.

These Islands are:

One Turn-a-Day Island

The West Island or Colonies is a slower paced island that completes one turn every 24 hours (as opposed to one turn per 12 hours). This allows for a different style of play as it moves only at half-paced game time, but still manages to be full-paced interaction. If you're looking for a truly "lightweight" version of the BattleMaster game and can only committ to logging into BattleMaster once a day, the Colonies might be the place for you.
