The Iltaran family hails from Bruck in the East Continent. Long simply one of many lesser noble families, the Iltarans have nonetheless given loyal service to the Counts of Bruck for many generations. Perhaps owing to the turmoil of the region in recent years, with control of Bruck passing from Oligarch to Fontan to Perdan to Westmoor, several of the younger scions of the family have left the home estate to serve various causes; notably the Kingdom of Old Grehk in Beluaterra. The Iltarans have a longstanding connection with the Tanos Family of Poitiers. At present, Valdus Iltaran is the Head of the Family; however the success of his second son Askarn has complicated the situation.

Askarn Iltaran

Duke of Ossmat and Silver Feather Locum of the Order of the Golden Feather, Askarn Iltaran has achieved success far beyond the wildest dreams of his family. Were it not for for Valdus' middle son, scarce few would know the name Iltaran. A little more than a year younger than his elder brother Maedros and cousin Savra, he inevitably found himself the vassel in his elder relation's battle for childhood supremacy. Great things were not expected of Askarn who generally seemed content to be the follower. Some notice was taken of his skill with the blade, but in competitions he proved overaggressive and neglected his defences (this trait would continue into adult life.)

With Maedros already contentedly serving in the armies of Westmoor and Savra having disappeared to the untamed lands of Dwilight, Askarn was the only Iltaran of suitable age available to answer the call from their kinsmen, the Tanos, to send a Knight to Beluaterra. Dutifully he travelled to Perdan City and from there took a ship to the distant continent. During the journey he would first hear the wild tales of Beluaterra's past; wholescale invasions by unnatural beasts and the walking dead and hushed words of something far more powerful and dangerous. Finally reaching the city of Ossmat, Askarn found his new homeland to be in the midst of a losing war with Fronen. A new Queen had just ascended to the throne and supporters of the losing candidate had betrayed Old Grehk, leaving the key city of Vozzessdor in enemy hands. Swearing an oath of service to the eccentric Countess Jilesponie of Kell, Askarn immediately raised a company of infantry and entered into the Army of Old Grehk. Pius Draco Tanos, the kinsman who had first sent the request for an Iltaran knight, served as Marshal of the Army.

Though Askarn was only vaguely aware of it, his new homeland was about to be engulfed in a far greater conflict. As she had promised before her coronation, Queen Skye Uceek signed an Alliance with Sint, throwing Old Grehk's fate in with its western neighbour. Two of Old Grehk's other allies, Avalon and Thalmarkin, responded by renouncing their friendship and declaring war. Askarn fought hand-to-hand with the warriors of Bara'Khur as the walls of Ossmat were overrun. Old Grehk's army spent the next week fighting desperately on the streets of the capital, till the approach of Sint and Heen forced the invaders to retreat. A halfhearted counterattack against Thalmarkin ended in miserable failure after saboteurs damaged the roads. During the fighting Askarn was wounded on several occasions, his hotheated atttitude proving dangerous on the field. Having had several of his units wiped out to a man, he finally raised the Iltaran Huscarls, taking a veteran of the Battle of Ossmat named Eodred as his Captain.

During the chaotic period, Askarn was appointed Vice Marshal, serving as deputy to his cousin. The promotion owed itself to family ties rather than any achievements during his month in the Kingdom and the seventeen year old knight did not begin to assert himself until Fronen's attacked the region of Junohep. Having recieved no instruction from Old Grehk's then High Marshal, Kane Dragul, Askarn ordered an offensive against Rolbury in the hopes of distracting the enemy. His plan was successful and as Fronen's massively superior force shifted northwards, Askarn withdrew back to Ossmat. The operation was trivial in itself, but coming after a long line of unmitigated defeats, it seemed like a triumph. Emboldened, Askarn increasing took charge of Old Grehk's strategy and when Countess Jilesponie abandoned the realm, he became Count of Kell. Shortly after Askarn personally led the army into battle for the first time, successfully defending Ossmat against a Fronenite assault. The symmetry largely went unnoticed by the young commander; he spend the aftermath of the battle being tended to by the healers after yet another wound. Another first came as Askarn led a successful reclaimation of Junohep.

Following the recapture of Junohep, Pius Draco (now also Arch Priest) swapped command of the army with his distant kinsman.

Maedros Iltaran

The eldest son of Valdus Iltaran, Maedros, Lord Treasurer of Westmoor, Count of Hagley and Vice Marshal of the Westmoor Column, is the brother of Askarn and Faed Iltaran and former owner of the Blessed Blade of Bloodletting. Conservative and deeply stubborn, he entered the service of Duchess Evangeline Uceek as a Knight at age seventeen. Initially he served in the Westmoore Tactical Force, commanding the Iltaran Guard, a company of heavy infantry. After some initial skirmishs with the Monsters and Undead that occasionally trouble Westmoore Maedros marched with his army against the Elves of Sirion, attempting to storm the fortifications in Caqueta. Alongside soldiers from Fontan, Perdan and Asena he fought in the epic but disasterous Battle of Sermbar, suffering a light wound. Repeated heavy fighting led to the Iltaran Guard becoming a tough, veteran unit, while Maedros himself acquired considerable skill with the blade and as a commander.

During the retreat from an invasion of Sirion, Maedros joined a Fontanese assault on Trinbar. Elven reinforcements arrived just before the Westmoor-Fontan army. In the ensuring battle the allied force was bloodily repulsed and Maedros was captured. While he languished in the dungeons of Sirion, the survivors of the Iltaran Guard were hunted down. Upon his release, Maedros raised a new company, dubbing the comparitively green troops the II Iltaran Guard. The next few months were not kind on Maedros or on his troops.

Whereas his younger brother rose to dizzy heights at a young age, Maedros achieved prominence somewhat later in life.

Savra Iltaran

Son of Halden Iltaran, Savra, Marshal of the White Tiger Legion, was born a few months after his cousin Maedros and the pair had a simmering rivalry through their childhood. Seeing little chance for advancement in Westmoor Savra instead travelled to the continent of Dwilight, where civilization was only slowly establishing itself. Arriving in the realm of Madina, Savra swore allegiance to Count Laithe Songslayer and briefly became a Knight of Paisland; resulting in yet another sea voyage. The peasantry of Paisland would adamantly refuse to be ruled by far off Madina though and the new estates of Savra and his liege went up in flames. Having futilely attempted to assist in retaking the area, Savra returned the the island of Madina.

Whilst re-equipping his troop of archers, Savra sought out a new lord and soon swore an oath to Baron Halicos Stalker of Fatmilak. An eccentric nobleman with a passion for hunting and an almost irrational hatred of commoners, Halicos had a reputation as a poor liege lord. Despite being warned of these tales, Savra decided that switching his allegiance so swiftly would be undiplomatic. These concerns would not be borne out though and the pair had an amicable relationship. Joining his Lord in the Madina Border Patrol, Savra fought in a number of campaigns attempting root out Monsters and Undead that constantly plagued the isles.

When Halicos tired of his duties and decided to take a long hunting trip, he asked Savra to rule the Barony in his absence. Easily elected by the other Lords of Madina, Savra took a seat on the Council of Madina. The first Iltaran in generations to rule his own fief, something he gleefully pointed out to his cousin Maedros in a letter home, Savra was already dreaming of bigger and better things.

Wrogam

Born and raised the son of a ship master in Springdale, Wrogam long ago dismissed the tales of his great grandfather's estates and servants as a fanciful delusion. With his family ruined and wanted by the Watch for murky reasons, he fled the city to seek a new life hunting down beasts that infest the countryside.
