Yssdragill.gif The Cultural Revolution

In this period of Giblot History, both massive Political, and Cultural changes took place in a fast changing world. Were the Nobles truly unhappy with the Political Status-Quo or was it just simple technicalities that forced the changes? Here we find out...

Massive Changes

...and here began the chain of events that brought about massive changes in Giblot. Although few ripples were felt imediately, the resulting changes brought about trends that still exist today. The initiator of these changes was the then Grand Justiciar, Lord Goergyboy. After finally tiring of his role as Judge, Goergyboy announced that he would be stepping down upon the day of the elections and made his Campaign to become Prime Minister of Giblot public at the same time. The Giblot Nobility were shocked and quite quickly a debate between Thanatos and Goergyboy formed on who would make the better Prime Minister. This however was not the only debate going on...

Many contenders had suddenly stepped up to the challenge to become Grand Justiciar after Goergyboy's announcement. Though, out of those contenders there were only two that outshone all the others. These were Dulthalos and Lisa. Both had no experience of any form in leadership roles, though Lisa could claim family ties as her brother is Gotchaz, the Duke of Giblot. With all the debating going on it wasn't long before the elections finally came.

The Elections

In an astounding victory, Goergyboy won the battle to become Prime Minister of Giblot. Though the victory was somewhat tainted by the bizarre decision of the Electoral Comission to disqualify Thanto's votes. It wasn't until much later when the reason for this decision was finally revealed.

In the election for the postion of Grand Justiciar there had been a similarly debated contest with Dulthalos earning his position with a slender Majority of 1 vote. In any case, the dramatic change to the face of Giblot's Government was an unexpected turn of events, and with such drastic changes you can similarily expect drastic consequences too...

The Great Schism

Another Month, Another Disputed Election. After a long, somewhat slanderous Campaign, Thanatos blamed Goergyboy's 'poor skills in Diplomacy' for Giblot's problems. Despite this however, Goergyboy retained his position as Prime Minister of Giblot, with the Electoral Officials once again barring Thanatos from running as a Candidate. It had been presumed that Thanatos would realise why this was so, though after some cursing, this result was accepted.

Meanwhile there was a somewhat different story in the Campaign to become Judge. After beginning with serious campaign messages, it eventually turned into a battle of the sexes which Lisa won by a majority. Though some believe that the sexy pictures of Lisa that began circulating throughout Giblot before the election, may have gone someway to influencing the reults!

Although the mood after these elections appeared to be one of Calm and acceptance, events that happened just days later would cause a massive release of tension between the Nobles of Giblot...

The Attempt to Loosen the Council's Grip

Just days after his re-election, Goergyboy began taking steps to weaken Thanatos' traditional power base and restore fluidity and openess among the council. He began this task by requesting that Duke Gotchaz should either step down or force Lisa into retirement due to the vast power his family now Commanded. Gotchaz refused this proposition so Goergyboy decided to remove Gotchaz from power forcibly. The consequences of this act would be dire. Immediately Nobles began taking sides and protests were lodged, although it should be noted that the only voices of protest came from Thanatos' closest allies.

Long and complex arguments were formed between Nobles and as the realm appeared to breakdown into all out warfare it was feared that a rebellion would start. However, before this could happen Goergyboy stepped to pave the way to another election, which would invariably provide a mandate for Goergyboy to continue his policies, or for Thanatos to reverse them. After Goergyboy stepped down, both him and Thanatos agreed to end their bickering to prevent a further breakdown in inter-realm relations. At this point it also emerged why Thanatos had previously been barred from running for Prime Minister. The officials feared that if both Thanatos and his brother had powerful postions in allied governments then, either one or the other would become a puppet realm. However, Thanatos persuaded his brother into stepping down from his position so that he could run. The race to become ruler was now even again.

Two days fter this, when all the preparations had been made, the election took place and Thanatos won, with a comfortable majority. Goergyboy, for the sake of realm unity accepted his defeat with honour. It was after the strain put upon Giblot during this turbulent time that the Nobles began going back to their old ways for the sake of realm stability.

Relapse

In the first election since the Great Schism, Nobles largely returned to their old habits, the only real change being the small amount of ground Dulthalos' gained on Lisa's lead. Although Goergyboy did manage to bring down Thanatos vote share since the last election. Interestingly one of Thanatos notable pledges in his campaign during the Great Schism was to form a Senate to better represent peoples interests, however afterwards this was quietly dropped. The election defeat for Goergyboy seemed to suggest that either the Nobles did not care, or that they still believed in the Republic.

Later on during the month Gotchaz was reappointed to his position as Duke of Giblot, though this time no one spoke up about his appointment, the Schism obviously still affecting people.

A New Hope?

This month, Ioanna gave up her long job as Minister of Finances to go on a well deserved holiday in the middle of Wirkfyr. After Who's spoke to Thanatos in private, he was appointed as the new Finance Minister, to the wonderment of many.

During the rulership election this month both Goergyboy and Thanatos declined to Campaign. This eventually brought about a landslide victory in Thanatos favour.

The Judge Election heated up this month however with the approach of a new contender, Lord Sera. Campaigning began some time before the elections and all three main contenders fought til the bitter end. However, after dulthalos departure from the race and his accompanying parthian shot against Sera, some other nobles resorted to partizanism which then tarnished the eventual finish. Eventually Lisa just defeated Sera, with a slender margin of 1. It is unknown whether Dulthalos will re-enter the race for Grand Justiciar but it promises to be an exciting time when the elections next come around...

The Impact of the Cultural Revolution

During this turbulent period of Giblot's history not only have vast political changes taken place but also, the Culture and the nature of Giblot Society has shifted as well. Although the shift began shortly before the time period encompassed within this chapter, Acts of great evil and brutality from Giblot's nobles have begun to rise considerably since the first great political changes. The number of alarmingly sadistic and evil Nobles entering Giblot continues to increase to this day.

Although there is still relative balance between the Good and the Evil, some commentators (including Alexander, Minister of Defence of Giblot) believe that there must be an end to the evil shift gripping the realm before it's too late! Although some have attributed the rise in visciousness to oppression of ones views many believe this to be a narrow minded opinion.

It is unknown for how long or how deeply this will run in Giblot society but the general consensus seems to be that it can only get worse, before it gets better.

More Judge Hilarities

Prime Ministerial and Grand Justiciar Elections - 01.10.05
Top Ruler Candidates Number of Votes Vote Share Top Judge Candidates Number of Votes Vote Share
Thanatos 110 64.7% Lisa 54 52.5%
MGRHA 16 9.4% Sera 48 37.8%
Goergyboy 14 8.2% dulthalos 5 3.9%

Unusually for recent times, not one person Officially decided to run against Thanatos in the recent rulership election. Thus once again the Newspapers were forced to turn to the Judge Election for their pre-election Gossip & News. Though an entertaining Election it was!

Lisa once again campaigned upon the back of her track record whereas Sera attempted to strike a chord with the Ordinary Peasantry. A considerable task considering the number of them he slaughters for fun every week! One memorable part of Sera's Campaign was when he claimed that he was the only Judge Candidate you could have a bar-room brawl with. The Headless OT was left with a greatly damaged tavern for the third time this month as a result. Although Lisa didn't attempt to prove Sera wrong, he still failed to gain the votes required to become Judge and the gap was substantially widened between their votes, unlike last month. However, both Lisa and Sera got far more votes than they received the previous month so it's anybodies guess who shall come out on top next month...
