New Army System

A massive overhaul to the army system is about to go live in testing, and later stable. It will break current army structures, i.e. all marshals, standing orders, formations, etc.

The new army system is much more flexible and a great step forward, but a hard break from old to new is the only way to implement it with the limited resources I have.

It is important for the new system on the testing islands that you have your oaths system working, even if the associated taxes do not yet work, but the oaths are how the new army system determines who the liege is who can dispatch knights to armies. On stable, the old liege system will be used for the moment.

This completely replaces the old army system. It's a hard break, all former settings, standing orders, etc. are LOST. You'll have to do it from scratch all over again.

Why? Because the new army system is different. Very different.

First, what does NOT change:

  • Armies still have a marshal
  • Marshals still can set formations and standing orders

Here are the news:

  • Armies are now automatically message groups
  • Armies are no longer linked to duchies, instead they can be freely created and dissolved
  • Whoever creates an army becomes its "sponsor" - and the one who chooses the marshal
  • Lords decide who of their vassals is assigned to which army
  • There is a "war chest", which is explained on the help page, but it's not yet implemented

Founding an Army

You can found a new army which will be based in either the capital, or your region (if you command one), or your family home region (if that lies within the realm). After founding the army, you have control over the marshal position and you can dissolve the army at any time. Being the sponsor of a successful army can bring prestige and fame to your name, but it is not cheap to keep an army supported - you can add funds to the army "war chest", and as long as there is gold in there, half of the expenses army members have from training and repairs will be covered out of there.

Also, founding an army will cost you 50 gold, 30 for paperwork and 20 for a mandatory initial war chest.

To found a new army, simply enter the name of choice (max 120 characters) and choose a base region:
