The Counting of Days

The reckoning of the passing of time in Dwilight begins from the first day the gods made the sun rise and set in the sky. In their infinite wisdom, the gods declared that time would begin in the summer of Year 1. The calendar of Dwilight is therefore reckoned from this date and is regulated by the change of the seasons.

To prevent redundancies, events of territory gains or losses will only be recorded if they pose special significances or are on the level of duchies; events of government official replacements will only be recorded on the level of rulers. Please make entries using Template:DRC.

Colonial Age (2008-01-10 to 2010-04-05)

Madina claimed to be the first to start settling Dwilight. Although these claims can not be verified by documents, it is clear that Madina was most certainly the most successful colonizer: Madinese culture spread across almost the entire Occidens and even competed with Lurian culture for hegemony over Forland.

Madina

The most successful Madinese colony was Caerwyn, which settled the Mesoccidens, and even had a colony in Chrysantalys: Viridian. The Grand Duchy of Fissoa was the first realm to successfully secede. An initial attempt to spread across the Palm Sea was thwarted by Pian en Luries, Fissoa managed to build a colony in Shinnen, named Myern. But this was eventually also destroyed by Pian en Luries.

The settling of Maroccidens proved more problematic. Avenel (Chateau Saffalore) was short-lived and Melodia (Paisly) would succumb to Shadovar, despite aid from Caerwyn and Madina. In the end the Maroccidens was settled thanks to the Madinese colonies: Terran (Chateau Saffalore) was settled by Caerwyn and Ordenstaat (Rettleville) was settled by Fissoa.

Terran was a successful colony, which even sided with D'Hara against Madina due to pirate raids. Ordenstaat would struggle with regular rebellions, which even resulted in the short-lived realm of Silverfall. The involvement of D'Hara in these rebellions resulted in a war with Ordenstaat and Madina against D'Hara and Terran.

Pian en Luries

On the Tomb Islands Madinese and Lurian cultures clashed: Shadovar was a Pian en Luries colony in Port Nebel. Melodia had expanded to Port Raviel, but would have to surrender the island to Shadovar. However, Shadovar struggled to control the islands and Pian en Luries established a short-lived second colony, Porto Lancia (Qubel Lighthouse), to support Shadovar. A revolt of Lurian nobles on Raviel Island resulted in the formation of D'Hara, which would eventually take possession of the islands and even expand to Paisly.

Pian en Luries (Askileon) was mostly an introvert nation, safe for the colonization of the Tomb Islands and war with Fissoa, because Queen Alanna was too occupied with curbing the power of the Dukes. This resulted in secession by Verus Luria (Poryatown), which was soon crushed.

High Toprak

In the north Springdale coexisted peacefully with Sanguis Astroism of the Theocracy of Morek (Donghaiwei). However, when emperor Arya was accused of an assassination attempt of Duke Cato De La Fere of Muspelheim, the duchy seceded and beaome Virovene. Since Cato adhered to Sanguis Astroism, Morek broke its alliance with Springdale and supported Virovene. Being cut off from the capital and desiring to stay out of the conflict, the Raivan Empire (Aegir) seceded as well from Springdale.

Morek overcame Springdale and refugees sought to form a successor state in Nifelheim with the help of the Raivan Empire: Summerdale. Virovene feared this successor would eventually reclaim Muspelheim and declared war, but lost, after which its nobles fled to settle Storms Keep. They named their realm Thulsoma.

The Raivan Empire had expanded to Freke. The Mimer Peninsula was, however, claimed by Morek. In order to prevent war, the Holy State of Corsanctum is founded. Corsanctum will form a colony in Unterstrom, named Aurora.

Meanwhile Morek’s victory proved to be a double edged sword: disgruntled by the influx of Dalian culture, the south seceded to form Xinhai (Donghaiwei). Dalians saw this as a chance to regain their independence and formed the Libero Empire (Springdale), which would war with Morek until its destruction.

Aquilegia was a Morekan colony in Flowrestown. When Xinhai sought to increase its influence over this small state, the Astromancy War broke out between the realms of Sanguis Astroism. The Libero Empire and Raivan Empire joined Aquilegia, while Xinhai was joined by Astrum. When the Libero Empire was forced to peace, the Raivan Empire was starved to death. Aquilegia would then accept the demands of the theocrats.

Upper Occidens

Everguard was the first colony to be founded after the initial four. It was a colony of Springdale established in Valkyrja, but then moved even further west into the Gelene Plains. At Eidulb it would clash with a colony of Morek: Astrum was founded at Libidizedd. Once another Morek colony was established (Averoth at Valkyrja), Everguard faced a quick destruction.

Astrum gained control of the Gelene Plains and resettled Chrysantalys. It even supported the settling of Darfix by Niselur. Niselur would quickly expand all the way to Gaston, but collapsed just as fast.

Dark Age (2010-04-06 to 2012-01-15)

Due to the destruction of the library of Madina, much of the history of this time is lost. This was an age of civil war and the period saw the destruction of many realms, including the two remaining original realms Madina and Pian en Luries.

South

Ordenstaat succumbed to the onslaught of the Netherworld. Terran established a new colony in Rettleville: Barca. D'Hara had a tough time. First it was almost destroyed by Sanguis Astroism, which sought to replace it with Quadrivium. Then it had to deal with an invasion from Luria Nova after having meddled in the Lurian civil war. However, the Véinsørmoot united Terran, Barca and D'Hara by treaty. This allowed D'Hara to restore its hegemony on the Tomb Islands and even to expand to the Sallowsite Cape.

Meanwhile the government of Madina became more and more fraught with corruption. The Falkirk faction tried to counter influence of the Aurvandil faction at Candiels. When it became apparent that the Falkirks were in fact controlled by Aurvandil, it became clear that Madina was lost. Those who refused to acknowledge this, moved to Fissoa_(Realm) and the Véinsørmoot, which joined forces to counter this threat in the south.

Luria

Queen Alanna continued her centralization attempts with the help of Treasurer Duke Amaury of Askileon, who hoarded food from the surrounding duchies to suppress them. The Duchy of Giask seceded, but the rebellion was quelled, because Fissoa could not deliver the promised aid due to monster incursions. However, when a plot by Amaury was discovered to overthrow Alanna, he was exiled and Alanna lost her strongest ally. Amaury went to Giask and supported another rebellion: Luria Nova. Queen Alanna fled and was succeeded by King Koli, who recognized the independence of Luria Nova in order to focus their attention on the surrounding monsters. The Duchy of Poryatown suffered the most due to the monster attacks and decided to secede as Solaria. Luria Nova settled Shinnen, which was also allowed to act independently as Luria Vesperi.

When Countess Etna of Lupa Lapu decided to switch from Solaria to Pian en Luries, war loomed. King Koli tried to repair the situation, but was assassinated by an assassin in possession of a Solarian coin. Angered by the accusations, King Malus of Solaria declared war and was supported by Luria Nova and Luria Vesperi. Fissoa and D'Hara tried to aid Pian en Luries, but failed: the last of the original realms is destroyed.

High Toprak

Thulsoma turned away from Sanguis Astroism. The Libero Empire declares war on Thulsoma. When Thulsoma bans Sanguis Astroism, the Morek Empire, Aquilegia, Corsanctum and Astrum declare war. Aurora rejoins Corsanctum to combine their strength. Once Storms Keep is taken, Summerdale destroys the last remnants. Xinhai renames itself to the Morek Empire.

In Aquilegia civil war broke out between monarchists and theocrats, which resulted in the destruction of the realm. Summerdale attacked the Libero Empire. The Morek Empire supported the Libero Empire, resulting in the destruction of Summerdale.

Upper Occidens

The ambitious Duchess Allison Kabrinski of Aegir seceded from the Morek Empire to form Entai. Caerwyn and Averoth declared war on Astrum and the Morek Empire. Entai decided to rejoin the Morek Empire in order to cooperate against the enemies of the faith. Madina joined Caerwyn, while Corsanctum and Summerdale joined Astrum.

Averoth is surrounded and soon destroyed, while Madina spirals into civil war. Caerwyn was outnumbered and started loosing terrain. The Duchy of Itau seceded to form Itaulond, while the remaining regions either switch to Asylon (a colony of Caerwyn in Echiur) or are conquered by Astrum. While Asylon destroyed Itaulond, Allison Kabrinski is rewarded with the Astrumese territories around Golden Farrow and forms Kabrinskia. In Gaston the theocracy of Iashalur is formed by Niselurian refugees.

Terran, Barca and Asylon attacked Kabrinskia, which received support from Astrum and Iashalur. The Madinese realms win, forcing Allison Kabrinski to abdicate. Due to the devastation of the war, Angroth (Echiur) revolted against Asylon, but succumbed to starvation.

Imperial Age (2012-08-22 to 2015-07-07)

In this period almost every corner of Dwilight was colonized. This period saw the largest realms in history: the Morek Empire (37 regions), Astrum (35 regions) and Asylon (32 regions). Luria Nova would grow to 30 regions, but its largest size of 37 was reached in the next age. It is during this period that the First and Second Continental Wars were fought: the first one saw a clash between Asylon and Astrum spread across the continent, while the second saw Luria Nova struggle for its survival with the help of Swordfell.

Luria

The Morek Empire tried to recolonize Flowrestown, but the attempt fails due to rebellion. Meanwhile Solaria had integrated into Luria Nova. In order to strengthen relations with the Morek Empire, Balance’s Retreat was gifted to serve as a base for a new colony: Swordfell. Luria Nova could then focus itself on its rival Luria Vesperi, which had offered asylum to deposed King Tybalt. The Novans achieved a quick victory and thus reunited the Lurians. Luria Nova could then aid with the War for Madina.

Madina

The War for Madina went favorably for Aurvandil: it took Paisly from D'Hara and set up a satellite state (Provincia di Fiorenza) and later invaded Terran together with Asylon. Although Terran continued to exist, Phantaria (Shokalom) seceded to protect itself against Asylon and Aurvandil set up a satellite in Chesney: Saffalore, indicating its purpose to destroy Terran’s final territory in Chateau Saffalore. D'Hara, however, destroys both satellites and when also Luria Nova and the Morek Empire join the fight, the War for Madina comes to a bloody end when Fissoa conquers Candiels.

Sanguis Astroism

In order to find protection against Phantaria, Terran beaome a theocracy of Sanguis Astroism. Phantaria then sought an alliance with Asylon. Meanwhile a rebellion overthrew the theocrats in Iashalur, which renamed itself to Niselur and then joined Phantaria and Asylon in the attack on Astrum. The Farronite Republic had replaced Kabrinskia and decided to also turn against its former ally.

While Swordfell and Corsanctum were struggling for Unterstrom, The Morek Empire decided to attack the Libero Empire, vassal of Niselur. Luria Nova had in vain supported Terran against D'Hara, but now switched sides to help the Libero Empire – again in vain. Barca, D'Hara and Fissoa attack Luria Nova.

Although the Farronite Republic was forced to peace and then revolted to join Asylon, the war was not fought to the end for it was interrupted by the Great Monster Invasion.

Invasion War

The sudden destruction of Phantaria by monsters did not alarm anyone: Phantaria lay on the Occidens and this had happened to many realms before it. However, it was just a prelude for what was to come: monsters by the thousands overwhelmed the Occidens. Astrum was pushed back to the Mimer Peninsula, even abandoning their old home of Libidizedd. Niselur did not flee and the nobles made a heroic last stance at Gaston. Asylon did attempt to seek a new home among its former enemies in Unterstrom. Corsanctum received help from Astrum and the Morek Empire. Together they pushed back Asylon, which then joined its allies in the south against Luria Nova. The war, however, had been so devastating that Corsanctum decided to integrate into Astrum.

In the south Barca sought a new home around Aveston with the help of D'Hara and Fissoa. Luria Nova suffered do to rebellions and the people of Giask invited Asylon, while the revolt was supported by an attack from the Morek Empire in the north. Nevertheless, Luria Nova survived thanks to its ally, Swordfell. Asylon and Barca were destroyed, Fissoa was pushed back out of Northern Forland and the Morek Empire out of Poryatown.

Luria Nova could then launch a counter attack and performed its own invasion on Storms Keep. Helyg Derwyddon (Donghaiwei) broke away from the Morek Empire and Sanguis Astroism. Together they forced the Morek Empire on its knees, which had to allow the secession of two duchies in exchange for peace. These duchies became Arnor and Antiqualia.

Restoration Age(2015-07-08 to 2017-11-26)

Dwilight started to recover from the invasions. The Occidens was recolonized again and Madina was re-established. The wars on High Toprak simmered on. Although the northern coalition gained the upper hand, Unterstrom remained part of the Lurian sphere of influence.

South

Luria Nova could focus on Fissoa, pushing the realm almost completely out of Forland. The focus of Fissoa shifted to Madina, which caused the Grand Principality of Fissoa to secede, hoping to restore Fissoan hegemony on Southern Forland. In response the Grand Duchy of Fissoa renamed itself to Madina.

As Luria Nova faced war on multiple fronts, the Duchy of Shinnen seceded to form Luria Boreal. As records from these times are scarce, the fate of this realm is unclear. It is believed that the realm was devastated by Astrum.

North

The Morek Empire struggled against Helyg Derwyddon, Antiqualia and Arnor, while Astrum fought Swordfell and Luria Nova for control over Unterstrom. Although Arnor switched sides and destroyed Antiqualia, Luria Nova managed to conquer Unterstrom and installed the realm of Westfold.

The failed colonization of Golden Farrow causes Avernus to revolt against the Morek Empire. Arnor negotiates an alliance between Avernus and the Morek Empire, preventing the north from collapsing. Helyg Derwyddon also joins the northern alliance after a peace agreement with Astrum, which forced the realm to secede its western territories.

Astrum then focusses on conquering Westfold and gains control of Unterstrom. It is, however, ousted by Swordfell which establishes the realm of Sol.

Occidens

D'Hara managed to recolonize Paisley and the new Madina recolonized Candiels. It was, however, Westgard, which focused completely on resettling the Occidens. The realm was established around the city of Gelene by refugees from faraway sunken isles. Although the fletching realm was almost overwhelmed by monsters, it managed to survive and expanded into the Gelene Plain.

Maritime Age (2017-11-27 to 2020-02-21)

As monsters learned to swim and every realm on Dwilight was vexed by the creatures from the Netherworld, one realm surprisingly prospered: Westgard had been the principal target for these creatures in the past, but could now expand as it had never before. As it set its eyes on Golden Farrow, it suddenly saw the banners of a new realm: Tol Goldora. The conflict spiraled into the Third Continental War as the north-south tensions never died down.

The war saw the end of Madina, Helyg Derwyddon and the Morek Empire. Despite the destruction, the war ended in a stalemate and Westgard returned Golden Farrow to Tol Goldora

Gold Sea Conflict

Before the maritime invasion, D'Hara had to deal with a revolt on Sallowsite Cape, known as the Grand Duchy of K'Vor. Although the realm was short lived, it forced D'Hara out of its isolationism, which was an important reason as to why the conflict would end in a stale-mate.

As monsters suddenly learned to swim, they overran the east. In order to better combat the hordes, Luria Nova seceded her south to form the realm of Luria Ferrata. While the realms adapted to a new reality, Sol settled Golden Farrow and formed Tol Goldora. Westgard was no longer the only realm in the Occidens and immediately set out to restore its monopoly. With help from Luria Ferrata, Luria Nova, Sol and Swordfell the young realm of Tol Goldora managed to survive and expand to the west, while Westgard expelled them out of Golden Farrow.

In the north Astrum, Arnor, Avernus, Helyg Derwyddon and the Morek Empire allied themselves with D'Hara and attacked Sol. The devastation of war caused Helyg Derwyddon to integrate into Arnor, but the destruction in the north became even worse when Luria Nova invaded Storms End.

As he war progressed, more realms followed the example of Helyg Derwyddon. Luria Ferrata integrated into Luria Nova, the Morek Empire integrated into Arnor, Fissoa integrated into Madina, Madina integrated into D'Hara and Astrum gave Eidulb to Westgard.

Despite the devastation, neither side gained the upper hand. Tol Goldora could not retake Golden Farrow, Westgard saw its home lands devastated, Sol survived the northern onslaught. Peace was agreed upon when Golden Farrow was returned to Tol Goldora in exchange for a huge sum of gold.

Migration Age (2020-02-22 to 2022-03-20)

As peace returned to Dwilight and realms were rebuilding, many lands lay waste. This allowed realms to evade conflict and search a new home. Avernus and Arnor decided to resettle the city of Darfix, which left the former lands of Springdale empty. Due to the Zuma Plague, Tol Goldora was forced to abandon the Occidens and filled the room left empty by Arnor and Avernus.

Migration to Darfix

Because Arnor strays from Sanguis Astroism, Sol declares war. Tol Goldora joins the fight by claiming Libidizedd from Arnor’s ally Astrum. Despite this, Sol can not gain an upper hand and decides to merge with Swordfell hoping to restore the Morek Empire.

Tol Goldora continues the war and war exhaustion causes rebellions in Arnor and Avernus. The realms diced to combine forces and together they migrate to Darfix to form the realm of Avenor. Meanwhile Astrum continues its struggle against Tol Goldora and manages to retake Libidizedd with the help of D'Hara. Eventually Tol Goldora proves too strong and Libidizedd is surrendered.

Migration of Tol Goldora

Astrum declares war on Swordfell after the mistreatment of Count Blaze. However, Tol Goldora is forced to flee the Occidens due to the Zuma Plague and eyes the Astrumese lands around Muspelheim. Astrum is forced to sign peace with Swordfell to focus on Tol Goldora. Libidizedd is retaken, but Muspelheim and Aegir are lost.

Meanwhile Luria Nova feels insulted when Duke Nikulás Erickson does not acknowledge retrieved pieces from the First Temple of Sanguis Astroism. Astrum is forced to accept peace with Luria Nova under humiliating conditions and acknowledges the hegemony of Tol Goldora over the lands across the Maian Bay.
