"When I asked my father "Where are we from?" all he said was "del puerto" and that is all that I know of my past." - Anselmo del Puerto.

The del Puerto noble house was founded by Anselmo, 2nd son of Alfonso of Nebel. When Alfonso of Nebel was murdered, the authorities arrested his eldest son, Marti, and deported him to the colonies stripping him of his claims on his father's house and his own nobility. Marti claimed it was Anselmo who put him up to murdering his father, but Anselmo dismisses this as a lie. With Alfonso of Nebel dead and Marti stripped of his claim, Anselmo was made patriarch of his father's house and immediately renamed his house, del Puerto. His reasoning for the change in the name was to distance himself from the misfortunes of his father and elder brother.
