The night was still fading in the early morning when this blade was first found. A large pack of wolf and manlike monstrosities had been terrorizing the countryside of Zonasa for some fair time now, and the young bastard Irdys of the Galeheart line had been after them for some time. He'd slain them on outskirts of villages and roads, but the pack was always one step ahead of him.

This morning however he felt things were going better. He'd already cut down 3 packs of the vile beasts and although tired he was too hot on their trail to let up. He'd found the pack and he would not relent. A small creek had masked his trails and he knew well enough that the way he'd circled around he'd come up on a small patch of somewhat solid earth halfway up the ridge above the beasts lair. And so he did, and from there the arrows he loosed one after the other slew the wargs. Finally one large white warg crept out of the lair, its eyes red and yellow glowing in the morning dawn, its fangs still red with the blood of the nights hunt. A vile beast, and clearly leader of the pack.

The arrows loosed at it bounced almost harmlessly off its skin, and the ridge that had seemed such a decent protection was cleared by the beast in two leaps. Irdys's blade was in hand in seconds and he stood ready to do battle against the dark beast. His blade iron, kept clean but somewhat notched still, had to stand up to the deadly fangs that tried to close round his throat again and again. The morning slowly passed into afternoon as the battle continued. Three wargs that had come up had been slain by Irdys yet the alpha seemed unrelenting, bleeding from many cuts and having delivered a fair few bruises as well as a nasty scratch across his cheek to Irdys as well.

But eventually man won out over beast, a rough kick to its gut send the beast spinning down the ridge it had scaled so easily and a half broken tree impaled the beast on its own weight.

And as Irdys travelled down into the lair of the beasts, among the stolen gold and crushed bones light seemed to shine in the darkness. Next to the remnants of what must've been a knight of some renown judging by the fine armor lay a blade. Its haft encrusted with gemstones black as night, but whenever caught by starlight or moonlight they suddenly shone bright as diamonds caught by the sun. The steel unmarred, folded back in on itself again and again and the hilt itself sturdy still although the leather had begun to wear away some in this cave.

The finding of Nightblade, a blade clearly fit for a noble more then any mere commoner.
