Chapter 4: Ubent

The Blood and I trekked north along Lake Lucian and through the familiar forests of Ibladesh and finally made it to the Eldoret mountains. We skirted East around the base of them and after a long climb came to Castle Ubent. The walls were old, but strong although one could see signs of recent improvements. We approached and were stopped by guards who wanted to know why travelers from Itorunt were here. We told him of our journey thus far and he recommended that we travel to Bursa for a party that was to happen that evening. Of course I couldn’t say no to that, after a long journey it’s nice to relax in good company over a glass of wine. I learned a lot about the history of Ubent and Caligus from Zog Returns and Faragorn. Apparently the last continental war left many countries destroyed or fractions of their former glory. I would love to have seen Ubent in the prime of her glory. I also heard rumors of black sorcery attributed to Yssaria’s birth, but I am not one to believe folk tales; however, it might be worthwhile looking into.

Asking around Ubent I got the feeling that a lot of the people there missed the way things used to be, not surprising given their history, still they are a lively bunch and were more than happy to converse on the state of things in the East. One thing I did notice was an unusually large group of mountain yetis that The Blood of the People and I helped dispatch, the beasts never even made it to the front lines. There is something to be said about Ubent’s Archers and Balistas.

I didn’t spend too much time in Ubent. It’s lovely scenery and breathtaking views are nice for a while, but I have to keep on moving, I thanked all those kind enough to share their time and views with me and headed west, towards Perdan.
