After searching the area for 2 hours, following trails and noises, Hogni finally encountered a warband of militant, heavily armed undead. They were led by an undead champion, an evil creature with more power and intelligence than the usual lot. Because Hogni was close to home and familiar with the lay of the land, he was able to use the terrain to his advantage. The battle raged, Hogni against the undead. His blows landed true, shattering them to dust left and right. The champion made Hogni sweat; he was quite the opponent. But in the end, he was just a pile of bones, too. Among what is left of the champion, Hogni found treasures worth a total of 2 gold, 2 silver.
He also found a unique item among the loot, the "Cruel Volume". A volume so cruel that reading a single passage instills a demonic level of cruelty upon the reader, changing them irrevocably to commit cruel and depraved acts. Unless the reader is from Outer Tilog in which case the reader gains additional notoriety and social standing among nobility.
