The rumours had been growing among the peasants that the sickness that had incapacitated the Duke of Saler for countless months was the result of dark witchcraft. The adventurer Janna Da Hadez was sceptical but had investigated nevertheless. The trail had eventually led her to a vast necropolis buried beneath the city by some long forgotten movement of the earth. It was here that she sought the subject of half-remembered legends guided by a scrawled map purchased at some cost from a raving beggar.

The twisted abominations that lived in this place had not welcomed her. When she arrived in the anti-chamber marked on the map she was bloodied and battered having send scores of the half-dead to their rest with sword and fire.

In the mud-encrusted gloom she found a rough stone altar stained brown with the offerings of the foul creatures who had performed unspeakable rites before it. Upon this altar a large crimson feather lay upon a gold platter filled with blackened blood.

The legends said that this feather could be used by those of evil spirit to poison the blood of their enemies. As she tucked it inside her armour she hoped that removing it from the foul temple and having it examined by a priest would help remove the ill influence in the Duke's blood. She had little faith in the tales but felt a little hope to be better than none.
