Lucilla receives the royal pamphlet

When the messenger arrived, Lucilla was in her tent, sitting comfortably in her chair and reading a manuscript on weapon making. Her father had taught her sword fighting since she was little. And as she grew up, she could be found practicing sword fighting with the boys, rather than sewing or embroidering, to her mother’s endless despair. When the messenger came, she was so drawn in reading that she only took notice of the boy when he came close to her and shyly cleared his throat a few times.

- Greetings, my lady! said the boy when he was noticed. I carry a letter for you.

As Lucilla takes the letter from the boy she notices the seal on the letter. “It must hold some important information” she thinks. But she also notices the date on the letter…it was sent the day before. She turns to the boy and asks:

- This letter is dated yesterday, yet it holds news from the Queen herself. Weren’t you told to deliver it as soon as possible?

The boys face turns red as he answers:

- Yes I was told to run as fast as I can and bring the letter to you…but…but…

Lucilla notices the boy blushing and the note of panic in his voice and patiently waits for him to finish his story.

- … but as I was running as fast as I could to get here, I accidentally bumped into someone, and before I knew it the person started yelling for help saying that I was attacking him, and some guards came really fast and grabbed me and took me to their post, and they started asking me why I attacked that man, and I kept telling me it was an accident, but they wouldn’t believe me. And they left me there, with one of them to guard me, and I didn’t know how I could ever get out of there and I was so worried I won’t be able to deliver the message, my lady. I was so lucky to be able to escape, if it weren’t for the guard who…
- Ok, ok, stop. I understand. Says Lucilla as she was searching her pockets for some coins. Here you go lad. Says Lucilla handing the boy two shiny coins. You may go now.

Lucilla took a seat in her chair, ripped the seal, unfolded the letter and started reading the Royal Pamphlet. “Heen will go to war soon. I have to be prepared.” she thought when she finished reading the letter. She felt a bit fearful, knowing that she will face a lot of dangerous situations and that she will have to fight a lot and prove herself worthy of her realm, but also excitement thinking of the expedition against Mesh. She smiled as she pictured herself, with the sword in her hand and her men by her side, fighting for the honor of her realm.

She folded back the letter and placed it in her trunk, then she got up and left her tent to go let her men know.
