The Fourth Age of Beluaterra

The period since the lowered activity of the Netherworld daimons and the resuming of multiple inter-human wars.

New Daimon Overlord

Under unclear circumstances, daimoness Prudent had taken control of the Netherworld forces. Since then, daimon incursions didn't appear to attempt to destroy the human race any more, and mostly acted as any other human realm. Under her leadership, Netherworld forces adopted the policy of avoiding cities unless the realm had otherwise provoked them.

Crisis in Eastern Beluaterra, First purely human war

Avalon laid claim to the regions of Wudenkin, and made it clear it wished the region. Letters supposedly from Avalons ruler, that they planned to take Fwuvoghor and hence allow Fronen to reform in Vur Hagin reached RoF. The Republic of Fwuvoghor promptly declared war on Avalon, who cried foul, as daimons had attacked them. The lords of the regions of Norjke, Tey Gren, Zod, Sheja and Henhower joined RoF, complaining of corruption in the Avalonian council. Valhus too attacked Avalon, to protect their region of Wudenkin, which was claimed by Avalon. Enweil decided to join the war, attacking Valhus, and allowing Bara'Khur to take over the city of Wudenkin. Riombara, Irombrozia, and Kingdom of Alluran came to Avalons aid, but troops passing through Fwuvoghor were restricted to 2000 cs per half day. Duchess Gwen of Vur Hagin, sensing Avalons defeat, ceded her city to form Fronen. Avalon sued for peace, and Galvin of Avalon and Mordred of the Republic of Fwuvoghor signed a peace treaty. The episode strained Republic-Enweil relations, although Enweil acted as guarantors to this treaty:

  • Borders stay as is.
  • Rogue regions, first come, first serve.(First to run a successful TO has rights to the region.)
  • Any switching region will be allowed choice.(both capitals excluded)

The Republic doubled in size, and the Plergothian exiles in the Republic banded together to form Hetland in Creasur.

Re-creation of Fronen

Created through the friendly secession of Vur Hagin from Avalon during daimonic occupation of the host realm, Cyrus Hyrion quickly rose to rulership. He is one of the oldest remaining people that was in the old Fronen, and his family held dukeships in the realm during its brighter days.

Daviald Incident in the South-East

Destruction of Vlaanderen

The realms of Mesh, Heen, and Sint destroyed the realm of Vlaanderen. Mesh took Bajit and Cwellndell and raided the regions south of Reeds until they went rogue. Meanwhile, Heen took over Naraka. Heen together with their federated partner Sint also raided Ren Madragas and Zisswii. Zisswii went rogue while Ren Madragas was held by Sint for a time before it also went rogue. The city of Reeds, unable to feed itself began starving. Heen and Sint forces marched into Reeds as the city spiraled into anarchy. In the aftermath, Heen started a takeover. In response to the takeover, Mesh lowered relations with Heen to peace. War however did not erupt between the two realms over Reeds.

Grehkian Conflicts

Roughly simultaneous to the wars in the south, these Grehkian Conflicts all revolved around Grehkian nobles' interactions with foreigners.

Neo Grehk Secession

For some time, Sint and Neo Grehk had warred Old Grehk intensely, reducing it to a few regions and besieging the capital on multiple occasions.

Fronen's Involvement

When the area settled down, Fronen arrived, declaring war on Neo Grehk and starting takeovers, acquiring Yipinalke. Old Grehk did not want Fronen to expand north, and a three-way war began. Eventually Neo Grehk was merged back into Old Grehk, with Neo Grehk's leadership eventually replacing Old Grehk's leaders, who had failed to gain their realm significant support. Relations with Sint improved. When Old Grehk could not stop Fronen's forces and refused to accept Fronen keeping Yipinalke, a key path to the city of Vore which Fronen had taken from the rogues, Thalmarkin stepped in to aid them. Even with support from Thalmarkin they could not push Fronen out. In a controversial move, Sint then attacked with Old Grehk troops, but they too were defeated and the city of Vozzessdor was quickly besieged. Thalmarkin, dismayed to see their allies side with Sint, then dissolved the alliance with Old Grehk to side with Fronen. Old Grehk has against lost much ground since, and many other realms have involved themselves in the war as a result.

Southern Wars Resume

The wars in the south were a continuation from previous ages and simultaneous to the Grehkian Conflicts.

Partition of Republic of Fwuvoghor

Fwuvoghor had earned almost a year of relative internal stability since Mordred Lefanis took over and reformed the realm to a republic, separating it from its rebellion-prone nature while a monarchy. However, he had also made multiple enemies abroad, notably in Enweil, where multiple Fwuvoghorian exiles had made their home. A referendum was held in Enweil on what to do next. (Referendum) They chose to attack the Republic. Avalon decided to dissolve the treaty with the Republic, and Enweil abandoned its role as guarantor, siding with Avalon. War seemed imminent, and Avalon attacked the Republic. Hetland joined the war on the Republic's side. Enweil marched into the city of Fwuvoghor, entering the city before Riombara's forces could arrive to it. Fwuvoghor soon fell, with Riombaran reinforcements being slaughtered. Hetland left the war after suffering great losses, including the death of its general on the field. Zod was besieged by Avalon, and the Republic fell, with the loss of its final region. Riombara chose to continue the war with Enweil. The destruction of the Republic and the policy of Enweil served as a catalyst to trigger one of Beluaterra's largest wars.

Information from the Republic's viewpoint can be found here.

The Second Great War or "Delvin's War"

Called the Second Great War by some, Delvin's War by others, mostly others that are hostile to Riombara. With Kingdom of Alluran first blocking passage to Enweil and giving a logistical advantage to Riombara, the battles were few and damages small. But, with Avalon's support, Enweil overpowered their foe. When Irombrozia elected a new King (who did not know the whole history between Irombrozia and Riombara), he asked about the reasons for Riombara's war with them. High Chancellor Delvin's replies were, according to Irombrozians, aggressive and offensive; according to Riombarans, perhaps injudicious. Rightly or wrongly, Irombrozia feared an attack, so declared war on Riombara and sided with Enweil, at which time Kingdom of Alluran declared war on Enweil. No longer having a diplomatic barrier, Enweilian forces took the quicker southern route and with full might invaded the Riombaran soil. At length, with Riombara having lost many regions and battles, many other realms joined the fray: according to the Riombaran alliance, they joined to prevent injustice; according to the Enweilian alliance, they joined to hit Enweil when it was distracted. Enweil withdrew from the South-Eastern scene as the realms of Mesh, Hetland, Heen, and Sint declared war on them.

Continental Chaos

After some time of fighting in the south, war in the north expanded, with Bara'Khur and Thalmarkin attacking Old Grehk after it decided to ally Sint, with claims of Old Grehk being now ruled by the old leaders of Neo Grehk being used to further justify the attack. Not too long after, Enweil signed peace with most of the western realms, ending for the most part the western front and re-igniting the south-eastern war when negotiations failed. To a very few exceptions, the whole continent is at war again.

Humans in Netherworld

Religious leaders of The Blood Cult attempted to forge a realm of their own in the daimon-controlled city of Athol Margos. The realm, Xerolco, survived for all of two days before the local daimon militia reclaimed the region. With Xerolco's fall something strange happened: the daimon's walked beside those that had joined the colony, and the colonists themselves carried the banners of Netherworld. The next day, a human, Valachi Stefanovic, ascended to the position of God of Netherworld.

War during winter 1009

All through the winter of 1009-1010 war raged across Beluaterra. The situation was - unsurprisingly - complicated: In the west Sint and Heen supported Old Grehk in its defense against Fronen, Thalmarkin and Bara'Kur. Against these odds Old Grehk lost the large city of Vozessdor through its duke seceeding to Fronen and the stronghold of Vatrona to Thalmarkin through conquest. Another side of the same conflict was fought in and around Hetland: Avalon - allied to Fronen, Bara'Khur and Thalmarkin - advanced against Hetland while being supported by Enweil. And lastly, the southeast: Riombara, still at war with Enweil due to the destruction of its ally Fwuvoghor at Enweils hands did skirmish with its powerful neighbour but concentrated against the small citystate of Irombrozia. This realm was finally driven to surrender due to Irombro not being supported from Enweil.

During these massive wars Melhed stayed mostly neutral and Mesh gained great honour: by not involving themselves in any 'petty' war but instead marching across the continent to attack the daimoncontrolled city of Athol Margos on the eastern coast in what the natives called the 'cursed isle'. The third assault saw them successful - with some aid from Riombara, the meshian battleflag was raised in triumph above the shattered city driving the daimons from their eastern stronghold once and for all. With this the dark lands in the far northwest around Jobo's Mouth remain the last daimon bastion on Beluaterra.

Spring

The central war continued without pause with several regions exchanging hands, going rogue and being reconquered. During that time, the Kingdom of Alluran was riven asunder by secession of two cities, forming Holy Empire of Alluran and the Dominion of Alluran. The ensuing civil war was ended surprisingly soon with the reunion of all Alluran lands under the flag of the Dominion of Alluran. During this time (late December 09), Cypreana Rossini called for a rebellion in Melhed, which won easily, and saw Melhed turned into a monarchist empire. Sometime in spring Mesh started to involve itself in the major conflict by supporting Hetland against Avalon, Bara'Khur and Enweil; Melhed was to see another successful rebellion which brought old-time leader Aldo Unti to power once again. Meanwhile, Enweil took the shattered rogue city of Athol in the eastern isles in the attempt to create a bulwark against Riombara there. Riombara, after pacifying Irombro, then also advanced into the cursed isle to take Athol from Enweil when the contingent there left and shortly after the large city of Rines from rogue forces. Though travellers report heartbreaking devastation: Athol was a city in name only - only 450 peasants survived the daimons and Rines sported only a third of its former population of the 90000 it had before falling to joint Enweilian and Avalonian forces.

Fourth Invasion

Undead Hordes were spotted in the region Qual on 17th May, 1010. Three days later, on the 20th of May, it was confirmed to be an invasion.

In the north, the Netherworld stirred and its Daimon commanders began taking over regions. On May 13, 1010 Porl was taken and on May 20th Aesh was taken over by the Netherworld.
