Overview

House Bedwyr in its current sense began when Gaharis, a very successful trader from a artisan family, married Katherine Bedwyr. Her family was minor nobility, but heavily in debt, and nearly lost their ancestral holdings. Gaharis spent most of his fortune paying off these debts, and in return was allowed to assume the Bedwyr surname, in addition to his marriage to Katherine.

While it appeared to be a business relationship, Gaharis only entered it because he had loved Katherine from afar. She did not reciprocate his feelings at first, but by the time their first child was conceived, she had come to love him in return.

Sadly, Katherine died giving birth to Damian. In his grief, Gaharis turned to one of her former handmaids. Shortly thereafter, Darkwind was born to this handmaid, Duclea. Damian's father, Gaharis, sent her and her son to a cottage on the edge of his land, with a small stipend to buy her silence.

However, when Damian was six, he overheard a retainer discussing his brother, and demanded that his father let him meet Darkwind. His father reluctantly agreed, and the two became fast friends. Damain fell into the roll of protector, despite only being slightly older, and Darkwind idolized him.

On Damian's thirteenth birthday, his father swore that he would grant one wish, any wish, so long as it was within his power. Damian asked that his father recognize Darkwind as a legitimate son, and would not be dissuaded. Thus, the two became even closer, as Damian began to instruct his brother in the duties of his new station.

Arlian, the youngest, is only tangentially related, as he is Darkwind's half brother on his /mother's/ side. However, invoking an ancient and half-forgotten privelege (only discovered by Darkwind during his time in the family library), Darkwind "adopted" Arlian. Damian initially refused to have any dealings with him, but recanted once Arlian proved himself a capable noble, garnering money enough to gain the approval of the trader in Damian, and his father's family.

Damian

Very honourable, and takes his responsibilities as head of House Bedwyr seriously. He is often solemn, but can be mischievous at times. He tries very hard to live down both his mother's family's debt-ridden ways, as well as his father's family's lack of nobility. He is an honourable man, proud, sometimes even stiff-necked, but respects merit, although grudgingly. He is intelligent, but often fails to see the obvious. He loves his brother Darkwind dearly, and does his best to protect him.
