Sponsorship

Some of you may notice that we have added a small notice to the "Game Basics" page on the main site. Pokerlisting is an online gambling site whose content team supports small games and gaming-related sites with some cash, and BattleMaster is among those selected recently. With this donation, the hosting fees can be paid for more than a year, ensuring BattleMaster's future. Though, of course, it should be said that ever since I started them, donations have also been more than sufficient to cover my costs. --Tom 17:16, 9 November 2010 (CET)

Server Move Completed

Since yesterday, the main game is now also running on the new server. DNS updates should propagate quickly as I already reduced the TTL (time-to-live) a week before the move. --Tom 07:04, 7 October 2010 (CEST)

Server Move and Wiki Update

I've moved the Wiki (and the Bugtracker) to a new server, the main game will follow shortly. This should take care of the performance issues we've been having. While doing that, I also upgraded a few things. For the wiki, MediaWiki has been updated to 1.16 and Semantic MediaWiki to 1.5.2 --Tom 08:42, 19 September 2010 (CEST)

Wiki Update

Semantic MediaWiki has been updated to 1.15.3, Semantic MediaWiki to 1.5.0 and all other extensions to their current version. --Tom 15:47, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Server Hardware Failure

On the 4th of May, the raid setup (mirrored harddrives) in the BattleMaster server failed, and the machine died. This happened shortly after the turn, but before the backup data had been automatically copied to a secondary server (which happens a few hours after the turn, due to the high traffic that is common right after the turn). This led to the worst case scenario of an entire day of playing being lost.

The game data was restored from backup on the secondary server (usually used for testing by the development team). Wiki, bugtracker and mailing list need additional data, though, that was not immediately available. As Murphy's Law has it, Tom had to go on a business trip the same day of the server failure, while the recovery required physical access to the machine.

On the 11th of May, the wiki could finally be restored to operation, and most other data recovered from the crashed server.

The post-mortem of this operation led to some important insights, especially regarding the recovery of the wiki, bugtracker and mailing list data, where a database dump is insufficient to restore the service. --Tom 06:06, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Wiki Update

Semantic MediaWiki has been updated to 1.4.3 --Tom 07:39, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

Community Manager Appointed

Tom has announced the appointment of Ethan Lee Vita as the new Community Manager. --Indirik (talk), Editor (talk) 14:01, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

New: External Data

With External Services and Tools we are opening a new chapter in BattleMaster history. It will be a while until the first tools arrive, but I'm already excited about what the community will come up with. --Tom 12:46, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

General Improvements

We are currently doing some work on the categories and semantics to make using the wiki easier. --Tom 12:49, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

E-Mail Confirmation Required

To combat spam, we have now enabled e-mail confirmation. You only have to do this once, just go to your preferences page and click the buttom near the button where it says e-mail confirmation. --Tom 10:27, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Wiki Maintainance

Unused accounts have been deleted from the database. This are mostly spam-bot accounts, and any accounts that had no edits or other activity ever. Regular user accounts should not be affected. --Tom 10:09, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Region Pages Updated

A large project is in progress right now that will move and update all region pages on the wiki. --Tom 09:59, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Semantic Wiki

We have just added Semantic Wiki support for the BattleMaster Wiki. Have fun. :-) --Tom 00:12, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
