Can you give me a short description of what Athonlaurism is?

Athonlaurism is the Bright Path. It is the worship of Arelien, Goddess of the Sun and patroness of just war. She is one of the Three High Gods, along with Her elder brother Mistarin, God of wisdom and balance, and her younger sister Elanzil, Goddess of conquest and vengeance. She is first and foremost a warrior Goddess...but She is not bloodthirsty, and does not believe in battle for battle's sake.

What are the major tenets of Athonlaurism?

Protest after protest began to flood in, forming into an unofficial "rebellion" led by AJ.  AJ very openly asked King Dielo to step down within 24 hours, or AJ would lead a real rebellion against him (At last count, the Underground had 11 or so members, presumably all nobles of some worth).

There are four primary tenets of the Bright Path. First, the duty of the strong is to protect the weak. Second, seek justice, but tempered by mercy. Third, do not seek vengeance, but forgive, and be forgiven. Fourth, do not be quick to violence, but use it only when speech has failed.

Is Athonlaurism the religion of Minas Ithil?

Later this evening, King Dielo announced he would be stepping down in roughly 26 hours, taking care of some final business, before returning to his Family's estate to be with his dying grandfather.  The new king has not yet been decided, but AJ and Elit are two of the more public candidates (provided AJ can give up his life of international espionage).

Absolutely not. While I am still a part of Minas Ithil, and do not wish to leave, as Arelien's Eyes of Flame on Atamara, I do not answer to any earthly authority. If King Dead Angel3 does something that goes against Arelien's teachings, I will rebuke him for it, and if, by some strange chance, he starts to act, and take Minas Ithil in a direction that goes, totally contrary to Her teachings, I will use my influence to attempt to change it.

I would also like to state that I am somewhat skeptical of so-called "state" religions, and find it difficult to believe that there are Gods who watch only over certain realms and peoples. The Gods give little thought for our earthly politics; anyone claiming that the Gods favour only their realm, over all the others, is likely to be lying, whether to you, or to himself.

Unfortunately, most of my interactions with other religions have thus far been bad. However, since the religions I am most likely to encounter are those actively seeking to suppress others, I recognize that that does not mean that all are bad. To date, I have encountered priests of the state religions of Norland and the Barony of Makar, both of which advocate slaughter of the innocent, and are thus anathema to Arelien. I have also encountered Magna Serpaensism, but I have not yet learned enough of them to formulate an official Church position toward them.

So You Wanna Revolution?
25th April
Almost ten full days later, RedSpan has still not entered into the island-wide fray. While there may be several reasons for this, many RedSpanners believe the fault to lie with their own king, Dielo. After some quiet mumblings and grumblings about the king being too indecisive and keeping the rest of RedSpan in the dark as to their political goals, nobles began to speak up.

Protest after protest began to flood in, forming into an unofficial "rebellion" led by AJ. AJ very openly asked King Dielo to step down within 24 hours, or AJ would lead a real rebellion against him (At last count, the Underground had 11 or so members, presumably all nobles of some worth).

Will the new King send RedSpan running head-first into the fray, as many of its nobles seem to wish? If AJ becomes King, will RedSpan become a sneaky nation of spies and assassins (some nations claim they already are)? Will Lord Shamus ever find his stolen Ale? Only time will tell...

The Straggling Realm
16th April
As the wars of Atamara continue to heat up, RedSpan, having stayed out of the conflict until now, may very well be jumping into the fray soon. With Carelia's sudden withdrawl from the SA, many RedSpanners were immediately up in arms, wishing to pay back what many considered a "blatant insult." Infiltrator AJ, known for his role in sparking the RedSpan/Darka war, and Kradus of RedSpan are among the most outspoken RedSpanners to speak in favor of joining into the war. So far, still newly appointed King Dielo has not made any real decisions, prefering to see exactly what former ally Carelia has planned.

Battle-weary troops from Abington returning home after a successful campaign through RedSpan regions have only helped fuel the RedSpanners desire for combat, somewhere, and it seems only a matter of time until RedSpanner banners will be seen amongst the fray...

Atamara in Turmoil
15th April
The wars in Atamara have broadened in recent weeks to the extent that RedSpan is now the only realm in Atamara not to be involved in what seems to have become a continent wide struggle stemming from the initial conflicts in the north. Indeed since the time of the publication of our last issue, Abington, the Cagilan Empire, Carelia and Talerium have all managed to get involved in the Northern Conflicts in one guise or another and diplomacy between the realms of Atamara has become increasingly volatile and unpredictable.

The most solid demonstrations of the general diplomatic breakdown have been seen in King Dead Angel3's sermons that all of Norland is filled with evildoers who ought to be killed on sight, thus whipping up a frenzy of hatred against Norland in Minas Ithil and the recent weakening of the Southern Federation as detailed below. The eventual outcomes of the Minas Ithil vs Norland and Falasan vs Eston conflicts are in themselves, not so pivotal, but it seems the diplomatic maneuverings that have been taking place as a result of these wars will surely be felt for some time to come.

Trouble in the Southern Federation.
15th April
In a surprising move, Carelia formally withdrew from the Southern Federation over the weekend after spending several years as an integral member of the Southern bloc. According to diplomatic protocol, war was declared between Carelia and the remaining SF members immediately. However, King Kronos has already stated publicly that his kingom's alliances with RedSpan and Abington "will stand" despite his sudden withdrawal from the SA. ref

At this point it is still unknown what the official response of the remaining federation members shall be and whether relations will be restored to alliance as King Kronos wishes. Considering that Abington is already involved elsewhere, eyes are now on RedSpan and whether they will try to make a big deal over Carelia's actions.
