Background

Originally established in Riverholm, Abington on Atamara, the Arete family derives its name from the Greek word meaning "virtue," or more specifically, "the excellence that makes anything an outstanding specimen of its kind, especially well fitted to its ends" (Nicomachean Ethics, trans. Joe Sachs, pg. 212).

However, the family has thus far done little to prove themselves worthy of their own name.

Aeryn

Always quick to act, Aeryn was the first member of the Arete family to become an active member of the nobility. A fanatic supporter of Abington, Aeryn believes the greatest honor is to die a hero's death fighting for a cause, but is slowly coming to grasps with the idea that living for a cause may be a greater service to Abington than dying for honor.

Aeryn has choosen Sir Phlex Fantom, Count of Washford, as her liege and patron, who has been very generous, but her greatest ambitions are to lead an army and be responsible for a region near a troubled border, and thus Aeryn hopes to eventually succeed Sir Askelus Skilgannon as the Marquis of Worav and the Marshall of Wor'ight.

Aeryn has just survived her first battle. A horde of monsters had invaded Matakonis while Aeryn was en route to Stargard, so she delayed her journey to join the fray. She is currently following King Carriantor to Chasnoff to fend off more monsters before resuming her march to Stargard to defend the interests of Abington there.

Combat Strength

I'm still working on figuring out the formulas, but I think what follows is accurate. It will become more accurate, and more complete, as I acquire more data to work with.

Modifier = (training * weapons * armour * morale * cohesion) * (1 - equipment damage)

  • Infantry CS: 685 per man
