Guildhalls

Bescanon

While not quite as awe-inspiring as the guildhall in Itorunt, the seat of the Guild in Bescanon was certainly still magnificent. The mighty pillars holding the roof had been carved to resemble great trees, branches adorned with various trophies.

Above the great double-doors is a bronze plate that reads:

Leo, Warden of the Guild

May his hunts be ever prosperous

May his trophies be ever burnished

And, indeed, as you enter the hall proper, you see that trophies are everywhere.

Lions, bears, deer, and other great beasts adorn the main hall, each expertly taxidermied, each with a stylized map showing the region it came from. The most magnificent examples were in pride of place at the entryways to the rest of the guildhouse, or above the roaring fire in the hearth.

The dining hall where members were often gathered eating and drinking showed more monstrous fare. Great direwolves, horrid spider-things, slippery snakes of great girth, all were displayed here. Heraldry showed the nobles who funded the bounties paid for the hunts, or the Houses saved from the attack from a horde by Leo's blade and skill. The entryways to adjoining halls were surrounded by seemingly endless teeth, making each seem a giant, gaping maw ready to consume an unwary adventurer...Aside from one of the Warden's old weapons embedded in it, making it clear who had triumphed.

And in the treasury, the undead ruled in their ruin. Skulls were everywhere, many cracked or partially shattered, some mere collected fragments of boneshards with a brief explanation beside. But all of their eyes, every last socket, was filled with a small gem for a pupil, and bands of steel and bronze, silver and gold, for the rest of their eyes. They sparkled and gleamed, even when all else was faded in the torchlight, giving all who entered save in the brightest of daylight the unsettling feeling of countless eyes watching them hungrily from the dark.

This was the last of the public areas, but not the last hall. For the Warden's Hall was private for Leo himself, decorated with his very favourite trophies. A particularly remembered champion, a specific artifact recovered after a great search...And, of course, weapons and armour in plenty. Everything a master adventurer could want, laid out precisely how he wished, and with servants to clean the bloodstains, polish away the rust, and of course tend to Warden Leo's needs...Whatever they might be.

Thus is the Hall of the Warden, and whether you seek gold or grandeur, carousing or comfort, you know that you walk under his protection, and everywhere you look, you can see that is no empty boast.
