The Unanswerable Question

The Apprentice asks her Master, “Master, where do Souls come from?”

The Master looks the student in her eyes and shrugs, “I do not know.”

“Why?” The Apprentice asks.

So the Master attempts to answer the question every Soul wonders as best he can.

“Well, we know the two modes Souls can exist in, either oblivious or living, and we know the courses Souls can follow, and we know the different stages to a Soul along those courses, whichever they’ve chosen, and we can hypothesis a Soul’s ultimate attainment once they’ve ascended to the top of the Hierarchy; but where exactly a Soul originates and comes into being is a total mystery.”

“Why? Isn’t it as simple as a stark dropping a Soul down the chimney?” The Apprentice insists.

“No, it is nothing like that. Or maybe that is exactly it? Say your prayers and perform the rituals to your gods properly and maybe they will answer that question. When you find out make sure to tell me about it. Not even I know the answer to that one!”

The Apprentice smiles at having stumped her Master.
