The Curse Returns: Omens

(Roleplay from Jenred Bedwyr)

Jenred rode for Lasop.

He had not wanted to do so. His proper place as King was in Irneas, helping to assimilate the region as part of the Borderguard.

Unfortunately, his proper place as Paladin was something else entirely.

The red wave on his sword that signified his patron Amriel had flashed this morning. He had spent most of the day puzzling over it in between his usual stretches and exercises for his wounded leg, and had not discerned why until while dictating a letter he had said "Book of Promises" and the sword flashed again, brightly enough for the scribe to see. The poor man had backed away, eyes widening, as Jenred had moved to examine the sword once more.

"Nahad..."

The sword blazed.

Jenred's eyes closed in contemplation. He was already sending his conventional forces to this campaign, and Amriel surely knew that his forces alone were sufficient, much less the others involved, so there was no chance of failure save for some supernatura-

His eyes flew open.

The Book.

It must have been read.

He shouted for his servants to ready his horse, and yelled for his captain to start marching toward Niel at once. He took solace in the sword. Amriel of all Aenil would not send him if it were too late...But that did not mean it would not be bloody.

(Roleplay from Caim Haerthorne)

Caim suddenly felt very strange. He'd been in severe conflict over his faith in the past months and it all seemed to be coming to a head. The Aenil left lingering traces of themselves in this world, that he knew and claimed to sometimes feel himself, but it unnerved him greatly at the spontaneous thought that they might actually come into this world.

He looked back at the letters - Kings and Patriarchs abounded in them.

How long would it be until the obsession over the book overcame him?

The Captain General was about to enter the city of Lasop when shouts from behind caused him to stop. A man was rushing through the ranks of his men on horseback with the feather of a messenger in his cap. He appeared to have rode hard and fast to find Caim, as his face was flushed and the horse beginning to breath foam.

"My lord... you must come to the capital quickly", he panted.

Fear flashed across Caim's eyes, but he quelled it with the realisation of what he must do. The messenger offered a letter to him which he tore open as soon as it was in his hands. It did not bode well.

"Turn around, men! I'll ride ahead, but we have no time to dalliance now!"

Few men grumbled at the sudden change in orders for there was a sense of urgency to their liege's command. Caim grimaced as he realised he would not have time to see his family again for a long while yet.

(Roleplay from Guy du Bas-Tyra)

As he relaxed, eyes skyward, his armor suddenly felt red-hot, and he knew not why. He gazed and saw that one of his scabbards was emanating a reddish glow, heating up, but when he removed his sword, the heat ceased, and he gazed at the runes all up and down the blade, and shuddered, despite the warmth of the season. The runes burned red, with a Stygian color to the center, as if he gazed into the depths of hell itself, and he strode towards the Imperial Palace, as that is what seemed the right thing to do.
