Empire,

The ambitious realm of Summerdale declared war on the Libero Empire two seasons ago in the Winter of 18 YD. Their cause was simply to conquer the small realm and revive the glory of long lost Springdale. Many denounced Queen Charlotte Grancourt as a mad woman, greedy for land and power. Last season, in the Spring of 18 YD, Grandmaster Garad Jhaelen Irsei decided it was necessary for the Morek Empire to intervene with Queen Charlotte’s goals. In short time the region of Mt. Black Nastrond changed its allegiance from the Libero to the Morek Empire, and this season, the Summer of 19 YD, the region of Stratford followed suit. Both regions seek the protection and assimilation of the Morek Empire. These are the facts.

The war in High Toprak between Summerdale, the Libero Empire and the Morek Empire is a conflict of imperialism. One realm seeks to become an Empire, one attempts to defend an Empire, and the other stands to prove itself as an Empire. I am very pleased that the armies of Morek are marching to war. This will acquire more glory and experience for our soldiers and prepare them for a time when we too will boldly make the same decision as Queen Charlotte.

It would be contradictory of this polemic to condemn Queen Charlotte for her decision; mainly because the Ashrak Imperialist is an imperialistic polemic that promotes and encourages the value of expansionism and conquest every season. How could I condemn Summerdale for wanting to take over their neighbour when I laud my own Empire for doing the same? Conquest is the purest cause for war there ever was. Comparing this war to the Second Occidental War we find a great deal more sense and rationality. Where that had complicated treaty infringements and border rights, this simply has the intention of one monarch to remove the other and take their lands. Rather beautiful actually. So, in line with the values of this polemic, I will celebrate Queen Charlotte and say to her and her nobility that they are not in the wrong and that they should bolster their strength and offensiveness as much as they can. Rally up and take to the battlefield young Nifelian! The true Toprakian Empire awaits you.

It is a difficult thing for the Demon of Dwilight to lose his son and so he dedicates this little corner of his polemic to the memory of that brave and true knight.

I founded the Ashrak Imperialist back in the Winter of 17 YD as a means to engage the nobility of the Morek Empire with topics and arguments about the realm and the times they lived in. The journal was designed to be a polemic, which means it purposefully dealt with controversial issues and attempted, gleefully, to directly confront the beliefs and status quo of the readership. I decided to take some time off from the Imperialist a few seasons ago for a number of reasons. First, my public life became more pressing as I became the Margrave of Nifelheim (and had to deal with all of the controversy over that). Second, because it started to occur to me that maybe, after all of this time, the Morekans have no interest in their realm outside of the fact that it provides them with a blanket to drape their titles in. This last point grew increasingly in me and I then shelved the Imperialist on hiatus. Consider what that realization means. I have lived in the Morek Empire for quite some time now. I have advanced myself from the very bottom of society, I mean very bottom, all the way up to holding a government title and receiving a city. Me, a noble who opposes the majority religion and who carries an infamous past, earned much in the Morek Empire.  What does that say about the rest of the nobles in the Morek Empire? What does that tell me about the Souls of they who surround me? I spent a great deal of time earning my status in the Empire through honest contributing. I spent a great deal of time attempting to shape and improve the Empire in the ways I thought beneficial. And yet, outside of offering a blank rejection to progress by the few I term zealot theocrats, nobody did anything. No one does anything. The Ashrak Imperialist was a one way conversation. My polemic journal spoke to no one. The ears who received it shrugged it off. The ears whom it directly challenged never took the bait. So what good are you?

The third and ultimate reason I am now ending the Ashrak Imperialist is because I have decided to join the Empire’s colony out of Flowrestown. All that I attempted for the Morek Empire may come to fruition in the new realm. This is an opportunity to take part in something new, something potentially glorious, and most of all something comprised of convicted nobles. They want to build a new society. They care about what it is about and how it operates. They, in the few seasons we have been planning the colony, have contributed more than any I have heard from the majority of nobles in the Morek Empire over the past few years.

You can’t be a noble without using your voice. And you can’t use your voice unless you have a community to speak to. Empire, invest in your community and you will see your realm bloom again.

Last season our Empire was entertained by a wonderful festival hosted by Marquis Martok Hallisun of Muspel. He challenged “the finest song writers, play-writes and exaggerators”…”to delight and bewilder the senses of Moreks nobility.” The competition offered prize money to the best stories, whether real or fabricated, chosen by the refined ear of Lord Martok himself. Third Place won 100 gold, second 250 gold and first place won 500 gold.

Here are the tales:

What happens to Souls when the vessel dies? There are many answers to this question, some outright contradictions, but the important thing to know is that the Soul itself can never be destroyed. If the body dies, the Soul has the opportunity to reenter Life in another body or to remain metaphysical. It gets more complicated when you ask this question to non-living things, like our perennial example of the rock. Rocks cannot die, but what if one was crushed to pieces? Does its Soul remain intact? Separated? The answer is that the Soul remains in the core of what the rock once was while the rest of its pieces become new vessels for other Souls. It is simultaneously the “destruction” of one vessel and the progeny of others. The Soul of the original rock always has the option, what we call volition, to resign from Life and return to Oblivion. If it remains active then it naturally pursues ascension in the Hierarchy of Gods." {{#ifeq:{no}|no||style="border-bottom:1px dotted"}} class="help">X</span><noinclude>]]

"The Final Word"

I founded the Ashrak Imperialist back in the Winter of 17 YD as a means to engage the nobility of the Morek Empire with topics and arguments about the realm and the times they lived in. The journal was designed to be a polemic, which means it purposefully dealt with controversial issues and attempted, gleefully, to directly confront the beliefs and status quo of the readership. It was a “political rag,” as one detractor called it, and it was also a collection of articles on local interests. It was never a newspaper or a chronicling of events for the Morek Empire.

So my final word to the Morek Empire, and this is the essence of what the Ashrak Imperialist was all about, is that you can’t have a realm without nobles. You can’t be a noble without using your voice. And you can’t use your voice unless you have a community to speak to. Empire, invest in your community and you will see your realm bloom again.
