I'm not sure about this, but won't the wiki save this variable, and always update what's shown to the *current* day and time or last edit to the page or something? If the effect is not similar to ~~~~~, it would lead to wrong (and messed up, on the long term) dates being displayed, no? - No, when you use the "subst:" prefix, it becomes a substitution variable. That means that once you hit Save the variable is replaced with the actual value. Try it in the Sandbox.
