Help:Tiki Conversion

From BattleMaster Wiki

In general, most of the work that you've done with the old tiki can be moved over to the wiki, but there is some work that's left to do. Here's a brief guide on how to do it, and what changes need to be made.

First: On the Wiki, make a link to the new page. The style guide has a section on page names that you should read. If the link is blue or purple when you preview the page, then that page already exists! Have a look at it and see whether someone has already done your work for you, or whether you can contribute to that page -- in either case, this guide is no longer useful for you. If the link is red, then the page is good to go.

 • You can get an automatic link to your family page by using the Userdata template.
 • All the realms are linked to from Realm Pages, and the guilds should be linked to from Guild Pages.

Second: Edit the Tiki page, and make a copy of the text. You can find the old tiki at: http://old.battlemaster.org/tiki/tiki-index.php

Third: Click the (red) link that you created in the Wiki. In the editing window, paste the result.

Fourth: Correct all the links. Tiki uses a ((Page Link)) style, whereas Wiki uses a Page Link style. You should also change the link names to conform to this wiki's standards. Common changes:

 • Wiki links do not use CamelCase. Use spaces, as in Tiki Conversion
 • Family pages are standardized as in, Family or Hatfield Family
 • Wiki does not automatically create links. You'll need to create the links yourself using the brackets as above.
 • Remember that you can use the format Link text if you want link text which is different than the name of the page.
 • Individual characters should be on a subpage of your family page, such as Rasputin. This keeps things tidy, and allows for the occasion of two characters on different islands with the same name.
 • If you've already created a link that doesn't match these standards, have no fear -- submit a move request and one of our fearless editors will do it for you.

Fifth: Correct all the little differences. For example, italics are the same, but the Tiki __bold__ becomes bold here. The Editing Help is your best friend for this task, as it contains lots of commonly used tricks.
